Bren:

Some programmes are due to be moved, though I'm not sure when it will happen at Waltham nor which channels are being moved. The best solution is to have a log-periodic aerial fitted as that will cover all the future changes envisaged.

And:

You should be getting quite strong signals from Crystal Palace as you are so close, maybe too strong and that may be the reason. Please check the signal strengths of all the multiplexes, they should be between 60% and 85% for reliable reception. If they are all higher than this you possibly need to add some attenuation. If they are mostly below 60% then you could have an aerial fault so please check all the aerial connection from the back of the TV set.
Would you please give a full post code (BR6 Bromley is not enough) to trigger the display of the reception information - you may have seen the series of blue link boxes below other posts. From those we can see what reception is expected to be like at your location and see if the channel 29 (538 MHz) signals are likely to be reliable. Note that the LW multiplex is only 20kW whereas the main multiplexes are all 200kW, so it is much lower strength and it may have a directional pattern too.

Peter Ebling:

Further to that said by StevensOnLn1, 96% is far too strong, 60-85% is ideal. It could be that your TV is being overloaded with signal so search this website for "too much of a good thing" for advice on solving that.

I assume you really mean Brougher Mountain transmitter in Ulster? Look at the channel data on the page at Which Freeview channels does the Brougher Mountain transmitter broadcast? and you will see that NIMM Mux is on channel 30 (545.8 MHz). It is transmitted at 1kW so less than the PSB multiplexes (which are 20kW) and half the power of the COM multiplexes.

There are three main transmitters shown in Ulster: Brougher Mountain, Limavady and Divis.

Brrenda Gregory:

Further to that said by StevensOnln1, what is your actual broadband speed? If it is too slow the service will keep buffering (stoping and restarting) as the data is not being delivered quickly enough for clear uninterupted viewing. For Sd it needs to be at least 4 Mbps and for HD it should ideally be at least 8 Mbps.

I've too have noticed that the Winter Hill page has loads of childish rubbish and so have a few others. Perhaps the fools this they look 'smart' when all it does is make them, whoever they are, look idiotic. Wo we have to look past it and see what real problem people are asking help for.

Broadband speed is a really serious issue in some area, which make the Sky idea of eventually move to internet only a daft one currently. As most can get Freeview or Freesat and Sky is available in most areas for a fee, it seems daft to me to move to a platform that has more serious problems, Whwrw I used to live in a rural hamlet we got 2 Mbps at best and that is too slow for SD and that is by no means unusual in rural areas as well as some urban locations too. Only when the USO of at least 10 Mbps is available to everyone, not just those who currently use the internet will it become feasible to deliver TV programmes via broadband.

Michael Firth, Nick Horrex, et al:

That is why many contributors here have been advocating having a log-periodic aerial fitted if you need a change. They cover all the likely channels and predicted changes expected over the next few years. So having a grouped yagi design fitted will, in some cases, become outdated and potentially unable t provide satisfactory reception of all the wanted channels.

Bertmay:

As far as I know PDC is not operating on Freeview, but I stand to be corrected by someone with inside technical information.

Therefore a recorder will start and stop at the times set by the selection of thwe programme and the user-selected 'lead' time to start before the programme actually starts.

Mike Davidson:

What signal strength does your TV set report for that channel? Com 7 is usually a weaker signal than the PSB and Coms 4, 5 ,and 6. So the signal may be too weak for the Humax but just sufficient for the Toshiba TV.

Historical pages back to Page 1 are available, look at the line of numbers below the postings.

Roy Isaacson:

I presume you mean to ask how to check the reception from your aerial? Arial is a type face used in printing, etc. A Receptionist works in the front office of a business. I presume you relied on predictive text, which has serious limitations in any technical sphere.

To anser the questio I think you are asking, your TV set will have a facility for manual tuning and that will show a signal strength reading - check your User Manual for how to do that. DO NOT perform any manual tuning, merely read the numbers for signal strength. Ideally they should be between 60% and 85% on all channels. Any higher or lower will give reception problems such as picture break up, loss of sound or even total loss of a channel.
