Please put you post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker That will show you what transmitters cover your location, how good the signal might be and what chanels are being used.

It may be that there is a problem with the aerial or the aerial cables, so please check all of those. It is highly unlikely that an indoor aerial will be of any use, there are always poor. Note that there is no such thing as a 'digital' aerial as that is a scam intending to fleece more money out of purchasers of them.

Once you have manually tuned your TV (see your TV User Manual for how to do that) check the signal strengths of all the available multiplexes. The quality is not relevant at all yet. You need strengths of between 60% and 85%, no more and no less.

Jeremy Withrington:

You should not have done a retune at all! That will never bring back missing channels. It is highly likely that the current weather is causing your loss of some channels.

You will now need to manually retune to regain the chanels your wiped. Put your post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker at Digital UK - Coverage checker scroll down to the details for the Newhaven transmitter and not the channel numbers. Use to to manually tune your TV, your User Manual will tell you how.

A Farlow:

Some people do experience problems with some or all channels. The BBC services are no more imune to some reception problems that those from other broadcasters. Most reception problems appear to centre around poor aerial systems that have developed faults, often being the corrosion of the contacts within coaxial plugs and sockets. That has been a bug-bear for service engineers for many, many years. The transmitters used are not really any different between and of the multiplexes (the grouped channels transmitted on a single frequency), and they carry services from a number of different providers in many cases. Occasionally a fault occurs within a transmitter, but that is actually very uncommon. All the transmitters are operated by Arqiva and they try to maintain all of them working as reliably as possible, irrespective of which programmes are being transmitted.

There was work done ion the Bluebell Hill transmitter overnight and that now requires a retune and possibly a replacement of a 'grouped' aerial with a wideband type.

Look at Coverage Checker - Detailed View and scroll down to see tha channels now being used by Bluebell Hill. Some now use channels 55 and 56, hence the need for a wideband aerial.

Contact the Freeview Helpline on 0808 100 0288 or 03456 505050 or at Support | Freeview as you may qualify for a free replacement of your existing aerial.

Steve Amps:

You should be getting excellent reception from Tacolnston, see Coverage Checker - Detailed View for the detailed reception expectations for your location.

If you are loosing one or more channels DO NOT RETUNE, but as you have you have now lost the previous settings that were correct.

So start by checking all the aerial connections from the aerial to the TV. Then manually tune your TV to the channels currently being used by Tacolnston, as shown on the page mentioned above. Then check the signal strengths for all the channels used, they should be between 60% and 85% strength (quality is not relevant at this time).

Note that you ideally need a wideband aerial to get all channels reliably.

Harry Hackney :

Put your post code into the Digital UK Coverage Checker, Digital UK - Coverage checker and look at which transmitter you are using. Then ensure that you are tuned correctly to those channels and that you have the correct aerial, some recent changes have often required a change of aerial to get all the channels.
