I've being trying to get an answer to this question from other places to no avail so I'm hoping someone can answer it here.

With London switching to digital in April 2012 and N Ireland not converting until October 2012, will N Ireland analogue viewers still be able to receive live broadcasts from London based TV studios and stadiums etc?

Presumably they will be transmitting fully digital signals so I'm wondering is there any implications regarding events like the Olympics etc.

Thanks.

Conor I couldn't agree more with you, it's disgraceful we have to wait until October before DSO especially if you consider we're expected to pay a TV licence fee but we're not receiving the same services as other licence payers who've already switched to digital. I think a rebate is in order!

As for UTV they are a joke and I suspect they will eventually fold considering the ultra cheap local programming they're broadcasting these days.

Peter I agree with you 100%. I'm living in Newry and have a TV with built in freeview. I've been scanning since January in the hope of receiving something to no avail. It stops and scans at ch 23 and 33 etc for a few seconds before invariably finding nothing.

I'm stuck with an expensive TV not living up to it's full expectations all because the digital signal level is so low. Why it can't be increased slightly for the Olympics and the Euro's is anyone's guess.

I'm thinking about contacting my local MP to see if he can do anything.

I'm currently using an Aerial masthead amp to receive terrestrial broadcasts. I've heard that when the full digital signal is transmitted that these may actually have a negative impact on decent reception.

Can anyone confirm that and would I need to remove the amp. Thanks.

I took the opportunity last night to do a digital scan whilst the engineering works were being carried out. Frustratingly whilst the scanner hovered over the channels for a good few seconds I failed to pick up a single channel. I don't know if this is anything to worry about or not. Can anyone enlighten me?

I live in the Newry BT35 postcode area.

Thanks Peter I did a detailed postcode check on digital UK and according to that I'll get great reception from the Newry relay.

However it only gave me a score of 67 and 59 respectively for Mux c and d from Divis. I have absolutely no idea what channels are broadcast on these Mux but would a booster give me a better chance of receiving them? Thanks.

I'm happy to say that I'm receiving all the BBC digital channels as well as radio channels with a good strong signal in the Newry BT35 area. I have to say in comparison to the analogue picture the digital picture is a lot better and more vibrant.

Before I buy a HD set top box for RTE is there any way I can find out if I can receive a decent enough signal to my home?

Well massive damp squib for me. I can only receive the freeview lite channels in Newry. No ITV3 and ITV4 and no film4 either which is a massive disappointment. That's despite using an amp and a wideband aerial.

I'm thinking of going freesat if I'm honest as after waiting so long for digital this is such an anti climax. Can't understand why the film4 channel and all the itv channels are not on the freeview lite signal.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Mike but to tell you the truth all this digital business has got me down a bit. I was looking forward to a full digital line up but to just been able get a small selection of channels has left a sour taste.

What's especially galling is that I've read reports of Dublin residents receiving the full freeview service as well as the saorview channels. Makes me wonder why I bother to pay a licence fee.
