Paul: Irrespective of anything else that may have been mentioned, your question would basically appear to have been asked because of you experiencing somewhat erratic reception of Ch67, however an important point that's not been mentioned but which makes me rather curious is with regards to what the signal strength / quality indication levels are that you getting on the MUX channels that you do receive? especially Ch67 in relation to Ch49 or Ch64!

The point of this being, that any query made by anyone about a reception problem should always (if at all possible!) be accompanied with info on signal strength / quality indications seen displayed on their TV etc (in the tuning menu options) whilst viewing the problem channel concerned, or if not able to receive it at all then what the level indications are of the actual MUX transmitter channel in question, this info from the transmission details at the top of the page.

The reason I ask is, if your signal / quality is hovering just above the so called "digital cliff" cut off level then that can possibly be improved which in turn should help the problem, but if the glitching is occurring with a reasonably stable strong signal / quality indication then that unfortunately is in most cases totally outwith your control, as it can be caused by a variety of external reasons.

I do feel though that the massive increase in transmitter power after switchover could well rectify your present difficulties, that is even allowing for the fact that reception predictions are far from being an exact science!

(All said acknowledging Dave Griffiths posting re Ch67 reception as being problematic in the Scarborough area)

lorna: If I am correctly interpreting what you are saying you have done, that is changed the wiring to everything, then its either the box itself or the LNB on the end of the dish arm that has failed.

There is no real way you can pinpoint which is at fault except by substitution, or maybe trying your box out on someone else's dish.

Brian Hewitt: Quest does not broadcast on Freesat, it is ONLY available on Freeview Ch38 or as part of a Sky satellite package (as its encrypted) on Ch154.

Christopher Innes: If you are presently receiving the BBC and ITV1 channels in a satisfactory fashion then I would wait until after the changes take place in September before making a decision to alter anything, the reason being that provided the person who fitted your aerial 12 years ago didn't choose to "over" cater for channel 5 analogue being on much lower power than the other analogue stations then the present aerial should be OK for Freeview without compromising anything.

It should be said though, that even with the changes that's being made in September you will really have to wait until early 2012 before everything is finally stabilised, as some of the Multiplexes will still be transmitting on a reduced output up until then.

You should have a study at the info on the top header to this page, as you will find most of what you require to know amongst the wealth of info there, including by the way the coloured end caps that are used to identify aerial groups, these end caps being on the common horizontal crossbar that holds the elements, although you possibly might not see them easily on a roof mounted aerial.

You should also carry out a signal check (associated with TV's tuning menu) to see what the strength / quality indications are on each of the Mux channels you receive, the MUX channel numbers / frequency (in brackets) indicated at the bottom of each section.

Dave Dearman: Just as an addition to what Briantist has mentioned insomuch that although a 40cm will still work in Central Scottish areas it should be pointed out that Sky generally uses 54cm dishes North of the Border, this because they provide just that little bit better performance as far as maintaining a stable picture in moderately heavy cloud conditions are concerned.

(Plus of course they are less critical in setting up!).

lorna: If you have actually changed "everything" including the box then you now in effect have a new installation, that is with the exception of the dish metalwork! so the only thing left that could possibly be responsible is that of the dish having been accidentally moved out of alignment.

Your box will still operate OK without a card albeit with limitations on what you receive, but I still think you should verify its operation by trying it out on someone else's dish.

brian bettell: There isn't really any connection between the two items mentioned as they are individual units operating with their own aerials, the Freesat from your dish and the Freeview from a normal aerial.

Likewise the HDMI lead from the Freesat connected into the HDMI socket on your TV, and with the Freeview connection to the TV usually being of the scart lead variety into the appropriate scart socket on your TV.

Simon Alcock: If you are intending feeding your Sky boxes analogue RF1 output to a second analogue TV then the RF power should normally be left set to OFF as its not necessary.

It should also be remembered that if you are using a dual standard TV (analogue / Freeview) as the second set it must be tuned whilst its set for analogue tuning or nothing will be received.

Scott: The easiest way to verify where a signal is coming from is, whilst viewing the signal in question go into the tuning menu of either the TV or set top box being used and click on "check signal" or "signal condition" etc, as that section will also indicate the MUX channel number associated with that particular signal / quality indication.

You then crosscheck this number with the MUX channels used by the two transmitters you are querying, these obtainable on this or a multitude of other sites.

Loveday: This can be caused by a variety of reasons including the box itself having developed a fault, the simplest test you could try is to reset the box by removing the mains supply to it then waiting about 15 seconds before reconnecting it again.

After re-powering leave it about 30 seconds or so before trying to take it out of standby, once done you should see "searching for listings" appearing shortly afterwards.
