Steve p my technical training limited how dare you i have been doing tv aerials for over 24 years and there are very few things i dont know about aerial reception the problem with this site is people like you who post thinking they know enerything and know very little you come accross as a radio ham or a spark two types of people who havent a clue about tv reception all your advice does is point people in the wrong direction the thing you think all us aerial riggers do with aerials, good riggers will line up every instalation with a meter and use there expertise to deceide where to put the aerial. I dont tell you how good you are at your job if you have one so dont tell me how good i am at mine.

Dee has your tv been working in your new home or was it working in your old home. If it has been working in your new home and you have more than one socket you could have an amplifier if so check the the fuse box it might have triped a fuse and knocked your amp off. It it is a new house and your tv hasnt worked at all check if you have a aerial on the roof or in the loft .

Steve it the aerial is facing the transmitter you want and it is the strongest signal you use a anttenuator to reduce the signal of the unwanted transmitters so the tv doesnt pick it up. Today i had the same thing a customer in west derby liverpool her freeview box had tuned in yorkshire not winter hill even though yorkshire had a strongest signal of only 29 dbuv where wither hill had a signal of 65 dbuv so i reduced the signal by 15 dbuv and the receiver didnt pick up yorkshire only witner hill the hardest thing with philips is there tuner only shows up in mhrz not channel numbers and am sorry i carnt remember all the mhrz numbers. Also if you know that you are in a area that has problems with other transmitters you and it is good signal you use a log periodic aerial this has a accute acceptance angle. You also use local information you get with many years of doing a good job. If you look at transmitter information it will tell you that ormskirk in lancashire it will tell you only winter hill works, on a tree lined road winter hill was only giving 40 dbuv on a still day but lesd then 20 dbuv when windy with the trees moved. I put the aerials on storton wood with a log periodic aerial and got them 50 dbuv with no break up. i will try anything to get my customers the best signal. i dont do any other job or try to do anybodys job either try looking at yourself befor you insult me.

James is there any trees in line with the dish if it has started in the last month it about the same time as the sap starts to rise in trees go into leaf if a tree has also got bigger. If this is the case the dish could be moved if no trees could the dish have been knocked. Does the cable run over the roof when sky fit a dish on the back of a house and the box is in the front they sometimes just throw the cable over the roof and it can rub and break. The only other two things it could be is the lnb on the front of the dish or your hd box.

Brian do you know what transmitter it should be? If so can the the tv or freeview box be manualy tuned in it, if it can and it is on winter hill as you say first unplug the aerial and do a auto tune or first time instlation so it tunes in and you get no channels. Next go to manual tune and use the numbers 55, 58, 59, 61, 62 this should tune in winter hill only this wont work on a sony tv though in that case do the reinstall with the aerial unpluged and put it back in when it gets to 69% this will also install winter hill. one last thing if it has any auto update switch it to off this will stop the tv retuning itself hope this helps.

steve i there have been some people in preston suffering with welsh i am only in lancashire so i only know my small area of merseyside and lancashire. The main problem with the dso was the increase in power of the transmitters making them carry a lot further than they expected. Ps went to another philips tv today the instructions in english was only 10 pages with no good information and it had a banner at the top of the screen telling you about what the tv could do when i finaly got rid of it i thought great only to pe phoned up an hour later after the customer switched the tv off then back on the banner came back on the philips tv are hard work.

Indoor aerials | Installing

Emma with things like microwaves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers kitchens are not the best place for an indoor aerial you could buy the best indoor aerial and very poor reception and have wasted your money your best solution is an outdoor aerial.

Nikl it could be one of two things one the scart lead is not in all the way on each end try putting it in all the way the other is if your tv is a panasonic and it is av2 it might say av2s if so press the green button on the tv remote this should send it back to just av2 or change the scart lead to av1 hope this helps.

Paul a simple solution would be aerial into sky box and rf out1 to that tv then rf2 going into a compact amplifier that gets it power from the rf2 or a mains powered amplifier that allows the magic eye signal through then connect the bedroom tv and backroom tv to the amplifier this should let everything work and you could have a magic eye on the back tv if you wanted.
