Frank how do you know that you have good signal at the dish. If you have a cheap signal meter with lights you ciuld be looking at any satellite in the sky and there are a lot up there. There are two very close to astra. My best idea to help you is get a local aerial rigger with a proper meter to line it up for you, or you could keep trying yourself for a few hours give up and then call out the rigger so save yourself a couple of hours messing around and call the rigger.

Mazbar: Kb your phone manner is the main point if contact. I try never to give a price over the phone what i say is there us no charge for me coming out to give a price. This gets me face to face with the customer then all you can do is be honest and polite. I get on avarage 9 out of 10 houses i go to. I then give them a exact price if it is a big job i wont give them the price while i am there i say i will phone them with a price, this then means that they are under less preasure than face to face. I pride myself on my work and i do the work on my customers houses how i would have liked the work done on my late mums house.

Mark is it a static caravan if it is the splitter is normaly under the caravan. A splitter is ok as long as the signal is ok going in. A local aerial rigger could fix everything for you, it cost more than argos but you have someone to come to you and fix everything you.

Mark you need a proper aerial rigger to come and help you dont try and do it yourself yiu could end up costing yourself more money in the long run. Have you had a aerial rigger out to make sure that you carnt get freeview if you want freesat to 8 points you could try an octi lnb but you need to run a coax from the lnb to each point .

Dave if you have taken down the dish and put it up om another house you will find it almost imposable to line it up right you will need to call out a aerial rigger to line it up for you expect to pay around £35

Mazbar: Jb38 i went to a house the other day his dish had been fitted by sky his signal strenght was at 90% but a check of signal quality this was at 10% when i finished his signal strength was at 85% but his quality was 89% on a meter not his box. Signal strength is one thing but if you want a picture that works in poor weather you need a proper meter not a thing with 5 led on them so a small charge to come out is not that bad.

There is a reason for telling people to get a rigger it is one for there own saftey and there own time. By the way what is an rf engineer i have never heared if one of thoese, is it a radio ham like my father inlaw he knows less than he thinks he does. Doing things like tv aerials and satellite it does requier proper equipment and training even the right spanner to tighten up a bolt.

John the only solution could be to ask the landlord if your son can fit an aerial at his own expence. If he can get a local aerial man not an 0800 number or ask the landlord who he uses for his aerial work. Hope this helps
