My Panosonic DVD and VHS recorder performed so badly after switchover that I smashed it to pieces and threw it on a skip. The colour faded uo and down on most channels and the discs failed half way through programmes so often that recording a series or indeed anything with any degree of consistency became impossible. I now have an excellent TOSHIBA hard drive and disc recorder which also allows you to edit adverts out of recordings after you have recorded programmes and paste them back together again. A delightful device.

Leslie : Try a retune with the aerial out to clear your box, then try again with the aerial in. If this does not work you may need an atenuator to reduce the signal strength which may be too strong for your equipment to cope with post switch over.

Nice to hear EARTHSEARCH back on the radio again by James Follett. Pity it's still in mono on DAB. Currently recording it onto CD from the BBC i-player so I get the ANGELS 1 & 2 coming out of separate speakers. I hope BBC Radio 4 Extra follows on with EARTHSEARCH II

Is it possible to watch the full range of BBC Red Button digital coverage on line (i.e. the additional matches not on FREEVIEW ? If so how ? For some reason the BBC are not showing the premium mens tennis matches on their main channels and FREEVIEW this afternoon ?

Is it possible to watch the full range of BBC Red Button digital WIMBLEDON coverage on line (i.e. the additional matches not on FREEVIEW ? If so how ? For some reason the BBC are not showing the premium mens tennis matches on their main channels and FREEVIEW this afternoon ?). As always SKY seem to get more than the FREEVIEW receivers for the same BBC Licence Fee ? We have had more in the past for some reason. We used to have 301 & 302. Couldn't they shut the Parliament channel down for two weeks (or even just the earlier rounds where more players are on court) to provide a more balanced coverage on all platforms. After all the cameras are and commentators are there using up the licence fee. It would be nice to see and hear them + the players of course.

Martin

Relays need additional frequencies to broadcast the same multiplexes as the main transmitter. According to some reports there are not enough frequencies on the UHF band between Ch 21 and Ch 69 for all relays to broadcast all frequencies needed so most relays have to settle for Freeview Lite. One HD Mutiplex plus the two standard Freeview Multiplexes (one for the BBC one for the main commercial broadcasters including ITV, Ch 4 and 5). Others say it is because the commercial broadcasters will not pay to have their services on all the relays due to the additional cost. Probably a bit of both. You are not missing much to be honest apart from FILM 4 and odd gems on ITV 3 & 4. These are available on line free of charge if you have a TV licence or free if not LIVE. See panel to the right here labelled "LIVE TV & RADIO" and click on the Channel of your choice.

I broke three bones in my hand just waking onto a beach in Oregan last year and fell of my bike in Austria breaking my elbow. It's all to do with unfamiliar territory I reckon. Still at least they heal (eventually). Hope you are not in too much pain and discomfort.

By the way, I still think the tennis picture was much better on BBC 1 & 2 analogue two years ago (and before) than the current Freeview BBC ONE, TWO & PARTICULARLY THE RED BUTTON. BBC Digital pictue is still streets better than the ITV Sport picture though (on all ITV channels these days). Even 405 LINES VHF was better than ITV Digital, albeit in B&W. So much for progress. I may get HD one day at least the HD logos are getting slightly dimmer, so why not switch them OFF altogether.

The whole point Steve though is TV isn't still (HD or otherwise). I just wish the people who tested standard Freeview would have ensured a higher quality picture on all channels which is at least as good as the previous analogue picture in an area of very good reception. This is certainly not the case with some channels ITV 1, 2 , 3, 4, ITV 2+1. Even BBC 1 Wimbledon is now worse than the previous analogue picure on logo free If this means making do with fewer FREEVIEW channels overall and shuffling channels around a bit then so be it. I can think of at least 20 that can disappear immediately.

No names at this stage.

Watching the Tennis & Golf on Freeview via the BBC RED BUUTON (Channel 301) recently the picture is nowhere near as good as BBC ONE or BBC TWO FREEVIEW, even when they are showing exactly the same match / golf player at the same time (give or take a second it being digital). It is still better than ITV Sport's though.

This is the same from both the WINTER HILL (Freeview) and MOEL-Y-PARC (Freeview) transmitters.

Does the RED BUTTON channel have a reduced bit rate on Freview compared with the main BBC channels, if so is this the same on BBC via FREESAT or even BBC from SKY, OR is it that long used excuse a "CAPACITY ISSUE". As you are aware we lost one RED BUTTON Freeview channel around the time of final switchover to make way for the three (now four) HD services on Freeview. I tried asking BBC INFORMATION but as you know they will not put you though to anyone with a significant level of knowledge and operators become almost rude after less than a minute of either making up the first thing that comes into their head or asking you to write in. So much for the improvement in BBC complaints MR PATTON ?

I imagine the BBC RED BUTTON picture is perfect on SKY !!!!
