Ishbel: Which channel are you referring to? I couldn't work it out from your post.

Iain: Do you receive That's Scotland on channel 8? Have you checked that your TV hasn't put Sony Crime Channel in the 800 range somewhere?

Mark Fletcher: Pendle Forest looks unlikely. Corholme is the only transmitter showing as serving your postcode, according to the Digital UK checker.

Kathryn Davies: You haven't said where you are or which transmitter you're using so we can't check for any reported problems, but the most likely explanation is that you have a fault in your aerial system such as a loose or damaged cable or connection somewhere. Start by unplugging, checking and refitting the aerial lead behind your TV, then work your way back as far as you can safely access toward the aerial.

Paul Hojka: Steyning is a lite transmitter so in reality probably never. Talking Pictures (along with most of the commercial channels on Freeview) is broadcast from 80-90 transmitters which cover around 90% of UK households. To reach of the 98.5% coverage level of the PSB channels (BBC, ITV, Channel 4 & Channel 5) requires over 1,000 more transmitters, which commercial broadcasters are not willing to pay for in order to reach a relatively small number of additional viewers. If you want more channels you should look at Freesat, which provides most of the same channels available on Freeview (along with various others) via free to air satellite for a one off cost of a Freesat box plus installation of a dish and cabling (an existing dish can be reused if the property hasn't previously had Sky).

Details of 11B_Humberside DAB multiplex

Betamax_man: The Freeview sections of this website have been recently updated (although channel allocations for some transmitters appear to be a bit muddled). Please bear in mind that this website is owned and run by one person (Briantist) who has other commitments and doesn't appear to be able to spare as much time as he might like to maintain this website. Myself and several other regular contributors do try help people with reception problems and advice when we can.

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter

john richardson: This website has no connection with any broadcaster or transmitter company. I'm also not sure the transmitter company can investigate anything to do with a landfill site.

Kevin: Virgin Radio is not on Freeview, nor has there been any announcement that it will be added. 736 is the channel number for Virgin Radio on Freesat.

Paul Westwell: Virgin Radio is broadcast on the SDL National multiplex which was expanded to 19 new transmitters last year. There has been no announcement of any further planned new transmitters since then.

Roger Dyer: Are the planes flying directly between your home and the transmitter? If they are, it's possible that signals are being reflected off the planes as they fly past, which depending on the angle of the reflections could be causing a momently increase in signal strength. Too high a signal strength can overload the tuner, leading to the same symptoms (e.g. signal breakup) that would be experienced if the signal strength was too low. This can be overcome by fitting an attenuator to reduce the signal strength (ideally you're looking for somewhere between 70-85% signal strength).
