Briantist: What's your source for Sky having paid for Channel 4 HD to be exclusive? I follow various websites which cover TV/broadcasting news and haven't seen that reported anywhere else. All other websites have reported the loss of Channel 4 HD on Freesat as being down to Channel 4 refusing the pay the increased fee for listing their HD channel on the Freesat EPG (Freesat don't negotiate deals with individual broadcasters, all have to pay at the same rate if they want to be on the EPG).

TONY: Does your TV receive HD channels? Smithsonian Channel is broadcast on the COM7 multiplex which requires a Freeview HD receiver? COM7 & COM8 are only broadcast from 29 transmitters covering around 70% of UK households. If you provide a full postcode, we'll be able to see if you are able to receive one of those transmitters, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc.

Stepan Pasicznyk: There's no new technology in those aerials, they're just bits of wire attached to an amplifier and are only any use if you have a strong signal to start with. They also aren't originally designed for the UK as they mention reception of channels which aren't even available on Freeview (e.g. Fox HD, NBC, Sky Sports, etc). You'd be far better off getting your fault fixed properly.

Peter : You might be able to get the Waltham transmitter which carries BBC/ITV East Midlands news, however by the time frequency changes are completed next year it won't provide a good signal, according to the Digital UK checker. You can watch BBC news from any region on iPlayer, or look at getting Freesat.

Gordon: There have been no recent changes of modulation from DVB-T to DVB-T2 on any multiplex. All that has changed (and all that has had an actual date announced) are changes to frequencies at many transmitters. No one needs to buy a new TV or set top box because of this, please don't post inaccurate advice like this, no one needs to buy a new Freeview HD box or TV because of a reception problem following any frequency change.

Keith Burnett: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? To offer anything more than general advice we need to know which transmitter you're receiving, so please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitters are available at your location, where you are in relation to them and your predicted coverage etc.

Sean : I'm struggling to understand your post, but I think you're having a problem receiving FreeSports on Freeview? Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitters you're able to receive, where you are in relation to them and your predicted coverage etc.

P Flook: We need to know which transmitter you're using out of over 1,100 across the UK. If you provide a full postcode we'll be able to see which transmitters cover your area, where you are in relation to them and your predicted coverage etc. You could also try contacting the Freeview Advice Line, who can assess if you need a new wideband aerial and can arrange for one to be fitted free of charge if you don't have satellite or cable (see link below).
