Chris: There definitely hasn't been a transmitter outage lasting for 2 weeks, thousands of people would be complaining and it would be all over the local press if there had been. Perhaps something got damaged in the storm which allowed water to get into your aerial system, which has now dried out, causing reception to return?

Brian Lark: This website does not transmit anything, it is an independent technical help site which has no connection with any broadcaster or transmitter company. Sony Classic Movies is broadcast on the local TV multiplex, which is only available in areas which have a local TV station on Freeview channel 7 or 8. There is a local TV mux broadcasting from Belmont, however it is mainly targeted towards the Humberside area.

Sarah Mckinney: You haven't said where you are located (please provide a full postcode) but unless the transmitter serviing your area has a fault or maintenance work taking place, you should be able to just connect your new TV to an aerial and let it tune automatically. As well as your location, are connecting the TV to a rooftop or loft aerial, or are you using a small indoor set top aerial?

Sarah Mckinney: England covers a massive area, but from checking your postcode you are predicted to get a good signal from the Sudbury transmitter (approximately 75km North from you) as well as weaker signals from various other transmitters. You mention having a booster in the loft, so one thing to check is that the booster is powered on, otherwise you won't get any signal through it at all. Many boosters use a power supply which is connected to the aerial cable behind the TV, so was there a power adaptor connected to the aerial cable going in to the back of your previous TV?

john allsop: Your other post has appeared on a different page. I can't see any current faults listed for the Isles of Scilly transmitter. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables and connections behind your TV? Is your aerial still pointing the same way as those of your neighbours? Have you checked whether anyone else nearby has also lost signal? Do not attempt to retune as this generally deletes all of your channels and will not fix anything.

M Walker: West Runton is a Freeview lite transmitter, which only broadcasts around 20 SD and 6 HD channels, whereas at your caravan you must be receiving the full Freeview service from a main transmitter. BT TV combines Freeview channels received via your aerial with subscription channels delivered via your broadband connection, so whilst you would get all of BT's subscription channels as long as you have a reliable broadband connection, you wouldn't get all of the free to air commercial channels you currently get via your Sky box.

You could cancel your Sky subscription and still receive all of the free to air channels via your Sky box, however you would be unable to record (or playback any previous recordings) as Sky require an active subscription in order to use the Sky+ recording functionality. If you have a Sky Q box, these are only provided on loan from Sky and must be returned if you are no longer a subscriber, otherwise Sky will deactivate the box, whilst also charging a non-return fee (and still insist it is returned anyway). The non-return does not apply if you have a Sky+/HD box which remains yours to do as you wish with.

If you provide a full postcode, we can check whether you might be able to receive more channels from another transmitter, which may make your decision easier.

SUSAN GRIFFITHS: There is no regionalised version of BBC One HD in England, it has always had the red screen during the regional news slot ever since BBC One HD first launched several years ago, nothing has changed in the last few weeks. You need to switch to channel 1 to watch Points West, no date has been announced for any BBC One HD regions to launch on Freeview (or any other platform).

Lez Ellingham: We might be able to help if you can tell us which channels are missing, which transmitter you are receiving (please provide a full postcode so we can check if you don't know). Also, check that you don't have any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV.

Allan Wilkins: PBS America is broadcast on the COM6/ArqB multiplex on LCN 91, PBS America +1 is on COM7 on LCN 93.

The owner of this website hasn't been able to keep up with all of the frequency and channel numbering changes which have taken place over the last few years. A number of channels moved up by 1 LCN in order to promote BBC Four to LCN 24 in Scotland, in order to move it closer to the top of the EPG (BBC Scotland takes LCN 9 which is still allocated to BBC Four in England/Wales/Northern Ireland).

There is a complete and up to date list of channels, giving the LCN and multiplex of each on the Freeview Corporate website at the link below.
