Glyn Hammond: Those signal strength readings look quite low, in general you should be aiming for somewhere in the range of 70% to 90% for reliable reception. C47 is very close to the 700MHz band which is now used for 4G/5G mobile services, so there could potentially be some interference if once of the mobile networks have deployed 700MHz nearby. It might be worth contacting Restore TV (the organisation setup and funded by the mobile networks to resolve 700 & 800MHz interference issues - see link below) who should send out a free plug-in filter if they believe you may be affected. It's also worth checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections which could be contributing to the reduced signal strength.

If you provide a full postcode we can see your predicted reception and may be able to offer further advice.

Glyn Hammond: Although you said that you can see the transmitter from roof height, you are 6km away and the transmitter output is only 24 watts. RestoreTV are not currently predicting any mobile interference at your postcode, although it's worth bearing in mind that this could potentially become an issue in the future. It may be necessary to fit an amplifier to overcome the low signal strength, which should be as close as possible to the aerial (i.e. a masthead amplifier mounted on the aerial pole or in the loft with as short a cable run as possible from the aerial) rather than behind the TV where it would only be able to amplify an already weak signal). It may be worth talking to a reputable local installer who is familiar with the area and can measure the signal strength at the aerial to see how much is being lost in the cable run to your TV.

Glyn Hammond: Now that you've told us you have an amplified splitter, that seems the most likely culprit. I'd replace that before you do anything else.

The Lancaster local DAB multiplex, operated by Bauer Media and carrying stations including Rock FM and BBC Radio Lancashire plus several others has been added to the Lancaster DAB transmitter today.

Mike: It's down to the station owners as to what level of coverage they are prepared to pay for and what spare capacity is available. Boom and Talk Radio are both on the SDL National multiplex which is broadcast from far fewer transmitters than the more expensive D1 National multiplex. Boom are a small independent station who don't have the financial backing of one of the big media groups and are unlikely to increase their coverage any time soon.

Graham Webster: Did you mean COM5 on UHF channel 31? There are no Freeview multiplexes above channel 48 since the completion of the 700MHz clearance and closure of COM7.

Clare Watts: I believe all the Freesat PVR models are capable of recording one channel whilst watching another (or recording two programmes at once). Certainly my Humax Freesat box does, although you'll probably find that the newer Freesat 4K boxes are the only ones now widely available.

Chris.SE: I've found ITV Hub to be unreliable on our Humax box on the few occasions I've used it (I tend to use a NowTV stick instead for catchup players). It is being replaced by ITVX within the next couple of months, hopefully that will be improved.

Roy Hopkinson & Chris.SE: I've received an email from ITV today informing me that ITV Hub will no longer be available on my Humax Freesat box from the end of September, so you'd probably be better off getting a streaming stick if you don't have access to ITV Hub on another device.

Gavin: This is an independent technical help website, nobody here has any connection with any broadcaster or transmitter company and therefore cannot sort out any transmitter problem. The transmitter will not have been turned down to save cash, what is far more likely is that you are suffering with the effects of interference from either a distant transmitter on the same frequency or local interference from from some piece of electrical equipment or cheap LED lights etc. Or it could be that your radio is faulty or the aerial has been damaged, it's impossible to tell from the little information you've given.
