John morritt: Although you're 87km away, your postcode is predicted to have good reception from Belmont. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables and connections behind your TV and at the aerial (if you can safely access it)? Retuning will never fix a signal problem if the TV was already correctly tuned.

.: Who said atmospheic pressure etc would be a thing of the past? Digital TV uses the same frequency bands previously used by analogue TV and there is nothing that make digital signal behave any differently to analogue when broadcast through the air.

Chris Morris: The current hot weather is allowing signals to travel further than normal, with interference from distant transmitters that would not normally be present causing issues in various parts of the country, so it would be worth waiting for reception conditions to return to normal. Amplifiers are still useful with digital, however they will still amplify all of the unwanted noise along with the wanted signal. Ideally any amplifier should be as close to the aerial as possible to get the cleanest signal and can be beneficial in overcoming signal loss from long cable runs and splitter if you are feeding multiple TVs.

margaret cochrane: Sky+ boxes only allow you to record if you have an active subscription. However you can still watch all of the free channels. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your Sky box/TV and at your dish (if you can safely access it)?

Adrian Parkin: Paramount Network has not launched on Freeview yet and will therefore not appear on any channel number. 57 is currently 5Spike+1 which will either close or move to a new channel number when Paramount Network is due to launch tomorrow. 5Spike+1 is on the COM7 multiplex which also carries BBC News HD and 4Seven HD and can only be received with Freeview HD enabled TV or set top box/PVR. There has been no announcement yet as to which multiplex Paramount Network will be broadcast on (this should all be revealed tomorrow).

Hardy: COM7 & COM8 did not come into existence until several years after analogue TV was switched off. According to Digital UK, COM7 & COM8 are both broadcast at just over 18kW from Tacolneston. The local mux uses QPSK modulation which is much more resilient but comes at a cost of providing much less capacity and therefore is able to broadcast at a much lower power level than the main muxes.

Daniel clapham: Paramount Network has not launched yet. New channel launches on Freeview generally happen late morning, so try retuning again around lunchtime. 5Spike+1 is still on 57 currently.
