This terain plotter may be useful:

Terrain - shows radio profile between two UK sites to optimise you DTT, Freeview, DAB or analogue TV reception

Also it might be useful to be aware that Lancaster's COMs are 1kW whereas PSBs are 2kW.

Lancaster's COM4 and COM5 are co-channel with Caldbeck, albeit with opposite offsets.

The powers that be won't release the radiation pattern for Lancaster so we don't know whether there is any restriction in your direction.

The Roose transmitter is co-channel with Lancaster's COMs, albeit that according to its radiation pattern its signal is directed away from the Island. Millom Park is also co-channel with Lancaster's COMs.

You will need a good Group A aerial for reception from Lancaster. See ATV`s Choice Of Aerials for digital TV

Trevor Milburn: I'm not an aerial installer and the only observation I can make is that the sensitivity (gain) of yagi aerials drops sharply above the designated group whereas below there's much more of a slope. C46 is the highest channel and therefore the furthest from group A.

See this page for example curves:

Gain (curves), Again

Note that the yagis all have a distinct form where they drop off sharply above their group and that the slope down towards the beginning of and below the designated group.

Further to my posting of 28 September 2012 11:36AM here is another location, this time Morpeth, where DUK reckons that Bilsdale's PSBs aren't as good as its COMs:

There was a retune event last night. PSB2 moved from C61 to C56 and COM4 moved from C62 to C54.

According to DUK Postcode Checker, Steyning changed channels last night. Before it was Group C/D and now it uses B channels.

Channels were 59, 50, 62 and are now 46, 40, 43.

John Morris: As per my posting above yours, PSB2 (which carries ITV1, Channel 4 etc) from Midhurst changed channel and therefore a retune is required. COM4 (ITV3, QVC etc) changed as well.

Gerry: There is no contact channel to the broadcast authorities for viewers. There are no guarantees of reception available, it doesn't work that way.

It will all be worked out in advance using computers.

I cannot believe that, should you not be able to receive post-switchover, you are thinking that you may be able to ring them up and get the transmitter adjusted!

I've given my six penith and I think that the best thing you can do is forget about it until next Wednesday. I believe that the likely answer is that it will all work fine.

Tim: No, Carnmoney will remain "Freeview Lite". This is because the Commercial broadcasters (those that won't be transmitting from Carnmoney Hill) don't consider the expense worthy of the return.

The achieve 90% coverage of the population from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population). There are over 1,000 small relays like Carnmoney and these serve about 8.5% of the population. The cost to the Commercial broadcasters to transmit from these relays would roughly double their cost of transmission and this, they decided, isn't worth it.

Tim: Carnmoney Hill will broadcast RT and TG4 for which you will need a Freeview HD receiver.

Ann: You need to retune as they have changed UHF channel/frequency.
