Chris Gilburt: If you're looking for an answer then which channels are they? Are you receiving directly from Mendip? If not, which transmitter are you receiving from? Are you using an communal aerial system?

Chris Gilburt: Without knowledge of which transmitter you are using I am going to have to make an assumption and that is that you are receiving from Mendip. If so, then the channels you refer to are broadcast on UHF channel 48. You should go to the manual tuning function (assuming it has one) via your TV's menu and tune to UHF channel 48.

Pete Green: I gather you are receiving from Mendip for which there are no further changes (until the next change that is!).

According to this list, there are only changes in the north of England and West Midlands on 10th April:

Freeview changes to clear the way for 4G broadband in 2013, updated | 4G mobile | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice

I suggest that you may be able to ignore the message.

Chris Ward: Bring up the signal strength screen on BBC One and ensure that it is tuned to UHF channel 49.

It could, perhaps, be tuned to Ridge Hill on C28.

Do you have a single aerial pointing at Mendip? If it's combined with one on Wenvoe then you may have an issue.

Sally Thomson: Is Codford twinned with a German town? Perhaps knowledge of the make and model might help - if we can find the instructions that is.

Barrie Etherington: Ridge Hill is a full-freeview transmitter (it broadcasts Public Service [PSB] and Commercial [COM] channels).

Sky Sports on digital terrestrial, for use with BT Vision, are carried on one of the COM channels:

DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex

The COM channels from Ridge Hill are on lower power than the PSBs, so if you find them to be an issue you may need to replace your aerial, either with another on Ridge Hill or one on Mendip.

Mendip will give you BBC One West and ITV West. Ridge Hill will give you BBC One West Midlands, ITV Central (South) and ITV West (it carries two PSB2 multiplexes, but only the West Midlands PSB1 one).

If Mendip isn't a possibility and you want BBC One West then you will probably have to pick it up from the Coleford relay, but it only carries PSB channels (so no Sky Sports). In which case, diplex (combine) it with the Ridge Hill one, if you can get the COM channels from there else there's not much point, unless you want to have access to West and West Midlands programming.

Pat: If you are receiving from Mendip then you aren't relying on a relay. There is a relay transmitter in Chepstow, which relays Wenvoe, and therefore carries Welsh regional programming.

Do you have one aerial on Mendip and no others connected pointing elsewhere?

If you are using a communal aerial system then the issue could perhaps be that it needs adjustment to allow the new BBC frequency through.

Andrew: In that case, no, there appear to be no English transmitters that you could pick up at your location so I don't understand where the message might have come from. I assumed that you were picking up a signal from a transmitter in England and was hoping to suggest that you attempt a manual tune on its frequency.

The Cheviot Hills would appear to mean that you won't be able to receive from Chatton. It's HD is on C39. For manual tuning, if your receiver has an option for mode it will need to be set to DVB-T2 (for HD) rather than DVB-T which is for standard definition.

Bryn Stephens: You may have to wait until 22nd May when Penderyn vacates C49. The Digital UK prediction isn't at all good for Mendip and non-existant for the COM channels, so you must be going some.

Do you get the COM channels from Mendip? (ITV3, Pick TV, Dave, Film4 etc).
