The problem with local TV in the UK unlike in the US is that the stations are not affiliated to one of the major networks thereby meaning that they are not financially able to broadcast live events and news where it is taking place with a reporter on the spot. This can only be solved by either local advertising or a subsidy from one of the two networks in the UK who regularly broadcast regional news or a combination of both. When put into effect live local news would in itself attract higher viewing figures which should translate to local advertising.

Freeview 2024?
Monday 2 July 2018 11:03AM

It's being totally naive to imagine the death of freeview TV being just down the road. At least half of the TV sets in production still do not have internet connectivity and to believe that free commercial TV has not got a long future is flying in the face of reality when viewing on conventional means is still the easiest and most economic way and preferred by the majority.

There are large areas of the UK still unserved by Jazz FM on DAB. When is this going to be rectified as they have now had several years to do this?

It beggars the question what is the point of having Virgin Media control your TV viewing when ITV as one of the most popular commercial companies does not undertake to allow relay of their channels through Virgin Media? It already has a problem with UK TV. What next the BBC?

What is the point of subscribing to Virgin Media if they cannot guarantee relay of ITV and all their channels, UKTV having already been withdrawn. What next the BBC?

I understand that Jazz FM is still not available on DAB+ to the bulk of Cumbria including Carlisle. Is this correct and when do they plan to rectify this?

i live in an area in Portsmouth served by the Rowridge transmitter and I wonder if the HD only channels running from channels 86 to 99 including the new excellent Smithsonian channel are weather dependant. Are they transmitted on a lower power than the other channels on their multiplex?

I live in Portsmouth and am served by the large Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight. Can you tell me why rhe HD only channels running from 87 to 99 including the new excellent Smithsonian channel are apparently weather dependant? Is this because the multiplex used to transmit these channels does for some reason use lower transmitting power?

Have the BBC considered the fact that it is highly likely they will have to prosecute individuals over the age of 75 who cannot or refuse to now pay for their TV licenses and the accompanying bad publicity this will cause the corporation?

Has the BBC considered the almost certain situation in which they will have to prosecute all those viewers over the age of 75 who cannot or refuse to now pay for their TV licenses and the adverse worldwide publicity this will create?
