Sudbury (Suffolk, England) Full Freeview transmitter

We live approx 2 miles inland just outside Clacton on Sea. I fitted a new Satgear Alpha Mini High Gain HD Aerial on the roof about 5 weeks ago fed I belief by the Sudbury transmitter. The reception has been a Hugh improvement over my old Aerial. However on Sunday 27/05/12 we had reception problems on most channels on both our TV's just for that one (hot & humid) day, although checking this site there was no problems with Sudbury. Would this be due to weather conditions?

Thanks guys for your helpful comments and leads. I have had a good read up on this site, especially regarding the "inversion effect"

We live on the outskirts of Clacton on Sea and thanks to a short sighted Planning Inspector now have a wind farm consisting of five 125 metre high turbines between us and the Sudbury transmitter. They are not yet operational. My question is "Will they interfere with the signal to our home"? At present I have one aerial on my bungalow roof which supplies perfect reception to three TV,s via amplifier boosters.

I have asked previously but got no replies..
A wind farm has recently been built approx half a mile away from us, it consists of five "125 metre" turbines which are not yet operational. It is sited between us and Sudbury transmitter. Is this likely to disrupt our signal when they start working?

jb38 Thank You for your replies to my queries asking if a new wind farm with five 125 metre high turbines will interfere with the Sudbury signal to my home in Clacton on Sea. At present we are getting decent HD pictures on our three TV,s. As soon as these monstrosities become operational I will let you know the result, as I,m sure this must be affecting a lot of viewers all over the country as these things are appearing everywhere.

I contacted you last August regarding five 125mt Turbines which were being erected on Earls Hall Farm, Clacton on Sea CO16,between us and the Sudbury transmitter. jb38 gave me a very informative answer & suggested that they most likely would affect our signal. He was right. They have had problems with them (ha,ha)and so they have only been working (intermittently)for the last week. We have three TVs fed by one aerial, all our pictures are still perfect apart from our newest TV which has full HD which pixelates intermittently on the four HD channels. Why are the Turbines affecting HD only? I would appreciate any answers on this.

We live in a bungalow, and have a good quality modern aerial on a tall roof mask, all connections are with W100 cable.Pictures on three sets are really good. Only BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD and Chan 4 HD on our new Philips set are affected. I have done all your checks,

jb38.I have corresponded with you during the last 6 months regarding interference to our TVs due to the new Earls Hall Wind Farm which has become operational in Clacton on Sea between us at CO16 7PD and the Sudbury Transmitter. Renco the owners sent GTechSurveys to monitor our signal, and consequently we have had a larger Wideband Aerial/Splitter Amp/Fixings etc, fitted by Sound & Vision of Frinton on Sea who done an excellent job for us. Our new Aerial has been tuned into the Dover Transmitter. (The opposite direction to the wind farm and the Sudbury Transmitter) We now have perfect pictures, including Freeview and the HD channels, but have lost Anglia news, receiving Meridian instead. They were willing to fit a dish up to enable us to receive Anglia, but we declined this. We are even picking up some French channels as well. I know they have been doing quite a few other homes in our area which have also been affected. Thanks for your help and advice in the past.

jb38. In reply to your post on Saturday 30th March I have checked the reception of ITV3 and Film 4 over a couple of days on our three sets, I have also recorded some films, and so far we have had no problems at all. We have been tuned into the Dover transmitter for five weeks now, and have experienced no problems with Freeview or HD.

I dont know the make of the aerial, but it looks similar to a Directional Freeview High Gain Y-1016F aerial that's sold on Amazons site.

I have just received a letter from BayWa r.e. renewable energy (the owners of the wind farm) dated 4th April 2013 stating that they "were not able to conclude that our loss of HD was directly caused by their turbines as the signal quality in our area is not ideal, plus the fact that our aerial does not meet the 10mtr standard height (we live in a bungalow) and they have upgraded our aerial etc "as a gesture of good will" This has really annoyed me as our reception had been really good and we were getting excellent HD untill their turbines became operational!!!

Hi. I have followed your site for many years. I used to live in the east using the Sudbury and Dover transmitters, but have moved to the west, N Somerset where I now use the Mendips transmitter, but am unable to change my address on your "Change your settings" My new postal address is BS29 6HG.
