If you're getting an on screen message then you're clearly in an area that receives Saorview so a postcode check shouldn't be necessary.

Unless there's a problem with dishes Keith, I'd go for Freesat.

A few channels that are on Freeview aren't on Freesat, but there are also channels on Freesat that aren't on Freeview.

By far the best option for anyone in a Freeview Light area.

Freesat might be the only answer.

Upgrading from Sky to Freesat | Freesat
Monday 1 September 2014 11:20PM

You can still record if you cancel your Sky subscription Graham, but only if you pay Sky £10 per month which kind of defeats the purpose.

Better to buy a Freesat PVR as Mike says. This is completely free (apart from the initial outlay) and doesn't even need to be connected to a phone line (as in the case of a Sky box).

<this means that all RTE stations will over the next few months will no longer be available in standard definition>

They never were Kieran, unless you had a TV or STB that could receive MPEG 4 transmissions, and they weren't very common up here.

Scotland could end up like the Republic of Ireland's Saorview service, with around 6 free to air DTT channels.

Not forgetting all those rights issues etc., which people in the ROI seem obsessed with and the reason why ROI channels aren't free to air on 28.2 degrees east.

The whole thing could be a sorry mess with regard to broadcasting.

No word of the 3 transmitters in northern Ireland coming on stream ?

I'm surprised there was nothing for south Down in the plan. I would have expected Newry and Kilkeel to have been included.

Neither Camlough or Newcastle get into Kilkeel Mark, and I've heard Newry is a black spot as well, so I'm quite surprised they weren't included in this phase.

I would have thought Bangor and at least parts of Newtownards would have been covered by Divis, but obviously not.

Indeed Nick, the +1 stations do not need to be on PSB multiplexes, in my opinion. ITV3 and ITV 4 at least instead of ITV+1 and ITV3 +1.

I would imagine BBC 4 HD will replace BBC3 HD on the BBC B multiplex if BBC 3 closes.

I don't think any decision has been made yet on the future of BBC 3, has it ?
