Freeview reception at DY13 8QA

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

You could try looking at http://www.satcure.co.uk/…htm. Satcure do a wide range of aerial and satellite dish equipment. There are other suppliers - but I have found Satcure to be very reliable and give good swervice.

Coax attenuators are available in different 'strengths' - the larger the number the greater the degree of signal reduction. It is often an advantage to place a male to female coaxial flylead after the attenuator and plugged into the socket on the TV/PVR. This being intended to keep the weight/load on the socket as low as possible.

It would be worth checking the strengths of each of your signals, the aim being to have all greater than 70% but not as high as 90%, the signal quality being related to having enough signal without having too much - which is where an attenuator come in handy.

Letus know how you get on.

Dear UK Free TV
I don't know if you've covered this, but I've been stuck researching since the last Freeview New Service Retune 26/6/15. A lot of older "Set Top Boxes", such as my BUSH DVB680, do not list the Com7 services in the EPG. That means they cannot access Central Area's Channel 32 and won't receive BBC4 HD or other new service. I got a work-round for the earlier HDs; just manually scan Channel 22, so 32 won't overwrite them, resulting in no HDs on the box. So, even if software updates are coming through the antenna, the older boxes cannot read them.
Why the BBC puts out channels in two places, heaven only knows. But if they confine HD to UHF 32, the BUSH box and other old equipment won't get any HDs.

I am recieving a varying signal on channels 10,20,24,48 and 61. At best the signal strength is a lot lower than the BBC/ITV channels. Then assuming I can get a signal at all, I can lose it at 7.00pm - channel 61 ( when recording MASH and approx 9.30 - channel 20 ( when recording New Tricks/ Rebus).

Is this an economy move at the transmitter or are you trying to lift my viewing tastes?

Or is there something I can do to improve the signal strength? I livo on Chalford Hill .The Chalford mast is visible from my garden, normally no issue. I already have a chimney top mast /latest arial and amplifier.

Suggestions please??

Keith Bullimore: The EPG channel numbers referred to are associated with COM 4 /5 and 6 multiplexes as transmitted by Mendip, Chalford Hill by being a Freeview Light station, not transmitting COM channels, thereby not coming into the equation.

As far as your reception problem is concerned, a quick check made on the signal path from the Mendip transmitter (@ 39miles /211degrees) to your location as having to pass over some rather dense woodland located at only a short distance away from your area, a situation that nearly always results in reception being prone to reacting to not only seasonal changes in weather conditions, but also to changes in any vegetation (trees) that the signal has to pass over.

Although you have mentioned signal strength, you should carry out a signal quality and strength check on the aforementioned COM channels, observing the quality for a couple of minutes or so for any signs of it diving up and down, or indeed dropping out all together, the COM channel numbers being as follows /

COM4 / C48 (690.0 Mhz) - COM5 / C56 (754.0 Mhz) / COM6 / C52 (722.0 Mhz)

By the way, if your TV or box has a manual tuning facility, go into the tuning menu and enter each of the "C" channels in turn, but do "not" press search or scan, because on most equipment this procedure results in the tuner acting like a signal meter indicating the strength and quality of the signal.

Andy:

Evening all, back again!

Aerial gate continues :-(

After spending the last two weeks increasing attenuators in the hope to reduce what I understood to be interference the TV picture was still breaking up.

One evening I decided to sit and watch the onscreen signal and quality bars to see what happened when I had picture break up, yes I have become that obsessed! lol. It seems that its maybe not interference but the signal is dropping completely out! and then returns, the same happens with the Quality.

Interestingly ITV seems ok! BBC is defo the worst.

So one last attempt before I called SKY I went to Screwfix and purchased one of these
Labgear TV Aerial High-Gain Digital | TV Aerials & Freeview | Screwfix.com

Decided to give the Mole y Parc transmitter a go seen as my house don't like Winter Hill.

Stuck it in the loft and pointed it to Mole y Parc connected it to the splitter with some of the Webro cable and all has been fine! its not had a blip! even all HD channels are received with 95% signal and quality, how ever I am slightly confused! ITV HD is ITV Central? I watched from news from Birmingham!? not sure how I managed to get a midlands signal! Hay ho

Anyway I am rambling! my Question is, can I combine the two aerials into on down lead? I am more than happy to use the Welsh Service for general viewing but I will miss good old Granada News, we had two aerials at our old house on to Wales and one to Winter Hill but haven't a clue how it was done, strange thing is we had issues with BBC at our old house hence the two aerials.

Any advice would be very much appreciated, I have spent so much money paying Aerial Guys to get me a decent signal and don't want to spend any more! I have spent about £550 already!!

Hi

Despite several retunes on our TV we have lost itv 3 (was channel 10 but recently channel 129) and itv 4, usually channel 24. We assume we pick up from mendip transmitter but our bbc regional news seems to be mainly Cornwall or Devon. We don't seem to have a manual retune function on TV.

We have tried unplugging the aerial, switching off , retuning , then plugging and doing it again but we are still missing those channels.

Any thoughts?

AM

Daniel: On the assumption that you are referring to a Sky+ box? the term initialising associated with boxes containing a hard drive, but which has developed a fault, if you have already tried the procedure of disconnecting the box from the mains, then waiting about 30 seconds or so before powering it up again only to find that the problem remains, rather than going to the bother of installing an aerial and purchasing a Freeview receiver (or PVR), you would be better going for a Freesat twin tuner PVR (recorder) as your two coax feeds from the dish are 100% compatible with all Freesat devices.

Thanks for the responses; I now have 3 differently rated attenuators. I found that using an attenuator with the August media player (tuner) DVB-415 failed to stop the 'jerking' picture. (Note, the picture is fine without an attenuator when using the sister August DVB-400).
Another problem with my Passion+ satboxes, where I get "jerky" pictures on BBC and CH4 HD channels, but not ITV HD when used with my Tevion TV, was NOT apparent when I watched "The Open" on BBC HD on my Sharp TV (newer than the Tevion).
The Passion+ has the option of selecting the rastor (there's a term we don't see very often now!) lines. This leads to the question: if the Passion+ is set for the maximum 1080i what is the effect if the TV operates at 1080p?

my signal strength is to high and signal quality is to low. I have tried everything to tune in my tv but nothing works. I have tried an attenuator and a 4g filter. I have also tried a set top box. I really don't know what to try next
