MikeB: When my aerial engineer installed my aerial on the roof he pointed it towards the Idle transmitter but it also will pick up North East too on the Bilsdale transmitter .
Now when I retune my Freeview channels it gives me a choice of either Yorkshire or North East. I choose Yorkshire because I want the local BBC and ITV news.
You just have to accept the Best signal quality or the regional settings on my TV.

Stuart Swaine: Idle and Bilsdale are almost on the same bearing, with Idle's first mux being just before Bilsdale. Idle is Yorkshire, so thats your local news, with Bilsdale apparently being Tyne Tees. But Bilsdale gets you extra HD muxes, so take your choice. Most TV's will allow you to manually tune as well as an automatic function.

Alex curran: Hi, Alex. If you give us your postcode, we can suggest the reason for your not being able to receive all of the channels. One obvious reason is that you might have a STANDARD DEFINITION (SD) receiver and this is not able to decode the signals from HIGH DEFINITION (HD) channels and render them into a visible tv picture! To be able to watch HD channels, you need an HD TV set or an HD-ready TV set and an HD set-top-box with an HDMI lead connection. Other reasons are likely to be dependent upon the transmitter you are using, hence my request for your postcode, so that we can ascertain your transmitter. Hear from you later, hopefully, Richard, Norwich, Sunday 12th. June, 3:30 p.m.

Alex:

Further to that said by Richard, not that an HD0Ready TV set alone does not have an HD tuner, so you would need, as Richard suggests, the HD Ready TV plus an HD capable set top box. Or have a Full HD TV set.

My aerial is in the loft. Before I installed a new fibre talktalk modem I was able to receive some 78 channels. I have now lost ITV, Channels 4, 5, 6, 9 as well as 19, 20 and 21 and many others. Is this because my aerial is not strong enough?

Pat Caulton: Your 19km from your transmitter, so you should get a full set. The modem in theory shouldn't make any difference, but check that it (particularly the power supply) isn't giving out any interference. There was a case a year or two back where someones TV was effected by next doors dodgy Virgin box.

However, its more likely to be a coincidence. Your losing channels, so its more likely that there is a fault somewhere in your system. Start by tracing back the signal path from the back of the TV - it could be nothing more than a damaged aerial lead, which is to swap out. If its closer to the aerial, it could be a frayed cable, loose connection or water getting into the cable.

Let us know how you get on.

S Riley: Hi, S Riley. In order to help you we need to know whether your tv aerial is pointing South/South-West towards Crystal Palace or East-North-East towards Sudbury, in order to ascertain which of the two you should really be using. We cannot advise whether you should get a sat dish until we have investigated Freeview tv through an aerial issues. Please reply and then we can provide some assistance, Richard, Norwich, Tuesday 14th. June at 11: 30 a.m.
