Freeview reception at DG12 5ET

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

martin: The problem referred to is most likely related to the engineering work being carried out at Winter Hill, *Possible weak signal* having been listed on the engineering board for some time now.

FAO: Briantist: Re: 'My Radio Reception'. Whilst I realise you state, " the DAB/FM/AM radio page is under development", I need to draw your attention to the fact that you've forgotten to include Stoke Holy Cross FM for my postcode NR2 2EF .SHC FM carries BBC Radio Norfolk 95,1, Radio Norwich 99.9 on 99.9, Heart East Anglia on 102.4 and Kiss 105-108 on 106.1 (Norwich relay of Mendlesham, 106.4). Whilst your devoted Stoke Holy Cross FM page includes these, it would also be nice to have them on the 'My Radio Reception' page! Thanks Brian, Richard, Norwich, 9th July.

Masthead Amp powered by distribution amp?

Good Afternoon all

I have a question and would be grateful of any advice anyone may have on the subject.

I have a Vision masthead amp that is powered by a 4 way SLX Distribution Amp, the Masthead Amp states a maximum of 65mA. The SLX Distribution Amp that is powering the Masthead Amp states its line power is only 25mA.

Is the Masthead Amp ok only having a 25mA supply? will it be working normally only having a 25mA supply?
Is the Masthead Amp likely to be over working the SLX Distribution Amp?

Any advice much appreciated

Andy: The vision mast head amp would be a continual overload on the SLX's output, which on this older model you are using likely result in failure of same, as nothing is mentioned on the spec sheet about it having overload protection.

My advice would be to purchase the Vision power supply as seen on the link, feeding its output into the SLX's UHF input socket.

Ron: Hi, Ron. I have a number of different DAB radios, some of which are made by Roberts Radios Ltd. In order for you to get help from this website, we need you to provide the postcode of a building on your street or road, such as a shop or a post Office or a Garage. Alternatively, you can give us the name of your district or village. This is so we can look up which transmitters cover your locality, and then we can suggest things that you can do to get and/or improve DAB reception on your Roberts Sports DAB radio. Hope to hear from you soon, Richard, Norwich.

Andy:

I suspect you have an incorrect understanding of how electricity works. At a given working voltage, the design of the electronics will determine how much current is required to be consumed.

The masthead amplifier requires a certain voltage and will consume up to 65 mA current. From your figures, the SLX distribution amplifier will provide the correct voltage but can only deliver up to 25 mA current - which is well below that demanded by the masthead amplifier. That means the SLX is *not* suitable as it cannot deliver sufficient current. As jb38 says, it is likely to mean the SLX fails. The only solution is as jb38 suggests.

Hint: remember Ohm's law and the formula for DC power P (power) = I (current) x V (voltage).

MikeP: jb38 thank you both for your replies, much appreciated.

Mike you are correct I could do with learning more about electricity, I am somewhat lacking in this area!

When I took a look at both the SLX and the Masthead amp It did get me thinking that things didn't seem to match up.
like I say I am no electrician but I did think that the numbers didn't seem to add up and it was my concern that if the amp is overworking the SLX that it may fail, I was even more concerned that its up in the loft that does get very hot in summer and the thought of it being over worked and in heat leaves me feeling a little uncomfortable! hence me asking you guys that know considerable more about this subject than me!!

Not sure what you guys think about my plan, please feel free to correct me if incorrect on anything, my main aim is making sure the setup is safe and will deliver years trouble free service.

The SLX has been in the loft for a long time buy the looks of it so I was thinking of replacing it with a newer updated possibly safer distribution amp, obviously I need to make sure a new distribution amp has line powering and is capable of supplying the Masthead amp with the correct current, keeping in mind that I have a Vision Masthead Amp (that's is new! and very low noise) and I am really pleased with its performance I was thinking about replacing the SLX with one of these -

Andy: after reading all your posts, you said you had 90 dbuv at the aerial head, you don't need a masthead amp or a distribution amplifier, at those readings I could put it into a 12 way splitter and expect perfect reception on all TVs. If you have perfect line of sight to winter hill all you need to run 4 TVs would be a basic 12 elements aerial and a 4 way splitter. Sorry but you have been ripped off.
