Freeview reception at NW3 5TZ

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Bob Faraway: If your Humax has a manual tune or manual scan function try scanning UHF channel 49 which should add back BBC West from Mendip.

Sue Johnson:

At your location you should be receiving the Freeview Lite range of channels. There is no fault indicated for the Fishguard transmitter, so the problem likely stems from your own system.

It is worth checking all the aerial connections are reasonably firm and in good condition. If you have a flylead from an aerial wall socket to your TV then it is worth replacing that, they are very inexpensive.

If that all appears OK, then unplug the aerial and perform a retune - it should find nothing. Once completed, plug the aerial back in and do a retune again. It may well find the 'missing' channels again.

Why does BBC4 HD show up on my Panasonic retune (47) with a quality of 10 but fails to appear in reality as 106, or as any other channel number? It was possible to receive it for the Olympics, but it then disappeared. I receive from Sudbury.

Peter: If you carry out a retune you will probably find that 106 disappears from the EPG listings, as BBC4 HD had been temporarily moved onto Sudbury's PSB3 transmitter (e.g: used by BBC1HD etc) for the duration of the Olympics to enable same to be viewed by a higher percentage of the population, obviously including yourself, but has now been returned to its previous position on COM7, Sudbury not being one of the stations fitted with COM7/8 multiplexes.

The nearest station to you transmitting COM7 being Crystal Palace @ 40 miles / 228 degrees, COM7 mux being on C33. If you wish, you could carry out a "manual" tune test on C33 but "not" press search or scan, because if any trace of a signal from C/Palace is received it will appear on the signal indicator bars.

Andy: Aerials of the portable variety are seldom successful even when used in line-of-sight situations such as applies to the location given, and if no signal is found using one "known to be operational" aerial then its unlikely to be nomatter what brand of aerial is tried.

However, the best method of signal detection is to "manually" tune the TV into one of the Mux channels used by the station, this being 24 (BBC) where reception from Rowridge is concerned, (@14mls / 235 degrees) the main point about the test being "not" to press search or scan after entering 24, because if anything is being received the strength / quality of will appear on the signal indicator bars, needless to say, this is the time to try moving the aerial around whilst observing the screen for any signs of a signal.

It should also be noted that this transmitter radiates on both horizontal and vertical polarities, the latter in some area's providing a better signal, and so try the aerial with its elements facing up/down, that is if they are not already fixed into that position.

Andy:

Further to that said by jb38, if/when you try moving the indoor aerial, please do it slowly and a little at a time. That is to allow your TV set software to respond to the changes in signal level and quality and report same on screen.

Note that Rowridge Vertical services do not include COM7 HD, COM8 HD nor the Local Southampton services. It does include all the other services.

Mark: Sandy Heath's Mux 21 which transmits BBC1 HD is presently being received at around the normal level up here in the Stamford area, this rather indicating that nothing is amiss with the transmission side of the equation, and so apart from checking that the jumper lead from the aerial wall socket (if used) is OK I would be inclined to leave things as they are for the time being, as many areas in the UK have been (and presently are) experiencing the adverse effects of the high pressure that's sweeping across Southern parts of the UK, the effects referred to resulting in spells of erratic reception in certain areas.

By the way, although reception is indicated as being excellent at the post code location provided, it should also be said that this post code would appear to relate to buildings in an industrial estate rather than in a domestic environment.
