Freeview reception at OX13 6SX

For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

Bill Morrison: The six year old one would certainly only have a Freeview tuner. If you can tell us the make and model of the newer TV, then its easy to see if it has an HD tuner.

Although pretty much everything I've seen 37" plus for the past two years has an HD tuner as standard, there are some 32" and a fair number of 26" and below which still just have a Freeview tuner. And of course it could been an older model which you just happened to buy recently.

If you have a modern PVR, then that should have an HD turner in it, so you could get HD on that.

Hi Dave, thanks so much for your response. I have checked the TV which is tuned to Bilsdale with full signal strength and quality, but after the scan on the DVD free view+ box (unplugging after 46) I now get the message channel unavailable. Earlier the box tuning to PP was giving those sets (5usa itv3) channel TV guide but no signal.

Is there anything else I am missing? Of course I will look to investigate aerial upgrades but that will take me some time, and probably money I expect. It is frustrating as I had no problems a few days ago. Thanks in advance, I appreciate your help.

yaz: The fact that you are receiving the COM channels from Bilsdale on the TV tends to suggest that the aerial is not an issue, so I would of course suggest that it's not necessary.

I'm not sure what else to suggest. Perhaps one of the professionals will be along in bit with some suggestions.

Hi Dave, I have just got back from work and saw your post. I did a add new channels scan just now and the missing channel set itv3, etc all appeared! Last night I was unplugging, scanning, etc till about 11pm to no avail. Thanks so much for your support. Would you advise investing in a masthead amplifier (think that's what it's called) as I am splitting the aerial signal between the TV and DVD free view+ box?

yaz: If I am right in understanding that the aerial lead coming into your room has an unpowered splitter on the end, with one output connecting to the TV and the other to the box, then connect the aerial lead directly to the input of the box and connect the output of the box to the input of the TV. That is, daisy-chain the box.
