George: By retuning you have deleted all of the which were correctly tuned, making the problem far worse as retuning will never fix a sudden loss of . Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections? The problem is almost certainly something within your system as you are most likely receiving the which covers most of London and there would be hundreds of people complaining if it wasn't working.

A full post code is essential for problems such as you describe. Only then can we contributors examine what the local conditions are in your specific area - South is far too vague to tell us anything.

What you describe is typical of an problem, commonly due to poor contacts in the plugs/sockets or a poorly fitted coaxial plug. So you need to disconnect all the aerial plugs and then refit them. Sadly as you have retuned you have lost all the tuning information your TV set already had, so you will need to do another retune. It is always wrong to retune when the signal is lost.

Just because a TV is 'brand new' does not mean it cannot have a fault and aerial systems can have faults that are not visible, especially if it is mounted outside above the .

If the problem was not within your property but at the , there would be millions of complaints from axcross the whole of London and beyond, serves over 6 million people!

MikeP: thanks Mike. Postcode is SW4 9LA. When you say plugs, other than the plug which links the TV to the aerial socket on the (coaxial?), which plugs do I need to disconnect, and where would I find them? Sorry please excuse my ignorance, I have no knowledge of this stuff! I live in a building of flats with a communal aerial on the .

I agree it isn't a issue for the reasons you have outlined - just seems odd that it was working perfectly and now can only find 5 .

I have taken on board your advice re 'don't retune', although it is who advised me to auto retune and reset to factory settings.

George: You could just go to a pound shop and buy another lead - if you then get all the you should do (your in SW4, so that should be the full set), then you know it was rubbish aerial lead. If not, then the problem is further up the chain.

MikeB: I gave it another go last night with the original lead. I did several manual scans of the and had some success in picking up a few of them (about half). The TV seems to pick up channels and get for viewing when the lead is held and positioned in specific places, then when I move the lead even slightly the signal is lost. Does this sound to you like an issue with the lead or the aerial sockets?

Why would the signal be working perfectly then suddenly I have to hold the lead at an angle?

I noticed that I have a separate aerial socket in a different room so I will give that one a go to see if it works. I will also purchase a new aerial lead.

The short lead from the back of the TV to the socket can work as a poor aerial and that is why you get a few unreliably. Replace the flylead, as MikeB suggest, and if you still have the problem then report the fault to the managers of the blockj as they are responsible for the communal aerial system. Also worth checking with your immediate neighbours in the block to see if they have a problem. If they do then it is a general aerial system fault, if they don't then it is likely a fault with the feed to your apartment. (It is not unknown for some silly people to cut aerial leads on a whim, I suspect they think it's fun!)

Let us know how using the socket in another room works. That could have a separate feed from the main aerial system compared to the one you generally use.

MikeP: the socket in the other room was very marginally better but I still had to move the lead around to get , then when I dropped the lead the signal would go.

The new aerial lead that I bought couldn't get any signal at all in either room.

I managed to pick up a few more (itv, ch5 etc), although these were then numbered in the 800s rather than the usual 3 4 5 etc. Apparently this is because I'm picking up signal from more than one , perhaps this is why the signal is bad? I am manually retuning according to UK's instructions for the transmitter.

Any ideas!?

That proves that there is a fault in the system, especially the part that feeds you apartment. Contact the owner/management who are responsible for maintenance of the block to have the fault corrected.

Your new aerial flylead is clearly better screened than the 'old' one so it will be less likely to pick up signals accidentally. (The flylead should not act as an aerial at all.)

Did you speak to your neighbours? Are they having the same problem?

Hi, I get a Strength of around 64% with a Signal of 100% on my in Otley, Yorkshire via the using an LG TV. Is a Signal Strength of around 64% OK? I don't get any issues with the at all? Many Thanks for your time, Andrew

Please post a question, answer or commentIf you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question your must first do this Freeview reset procedure then see: Freeview reception has changed, Single frequency interference, and Freeview intermittent interference.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
