Anyone having problems with certain channels lately? They're all usually fine, but for some reason E4 is fuzzy? EH7 9EP

Where has True Entertainment & True Movies gone?

We are listed to receive True Movies and True Entertainment from the Mendip Transmitter on chans 50 and 48. Since the June retunes these have disappeared. They were on temp chan 790 & 791 but have recently been switched off??? The Transmitter claims all is well and my aerial has been replaced by wide band and a local aerial man checked my system and found it to be recieving a strong signal. He looked on internet where these channels were listed as temporarily unavailable but every time I check they are listed as available however I cannot receive them. The advice is to manually rescan, however we have a BT youview box which cannot do a manual scan. Anyway the aerial man checked with his meter and found no signal on either chan 48 or 50!

True Entertainment, etc, have been moved by the owners (Sony) onto the local multiplexes only. These ar on the UHF channel 30 multiplex.

You will need to have a wideband aerial for best reults.

If you are getting your signals from the Craigkelly transmitter, there is engineering work there this week with "Possible weak signal".

Stephen Burnell:

If your aerial man was checking for signals with a meter it must have been on UHF Channel 48 where he should have got a signal as the SDN multiplex is on it!
If you put your postcode into Digital UK - Coverage checker you should see that you should get the Local Mux on UHF ch.30 as mentioned by MikeP.
That is the postcode you put in your last post rather than the one you have entered for this site which is different (SN15 3XE) and predicted reception isn't quite as good. BUT as MikeP mentions you need a Wideband/Group T aerial - the old C/D group (even the enhanced one) will give much weaker reception on UHF30.

MikeP:

I have a wideband aerial.

If I read the situation correctly the local mux is only transmitted from the alternative low power transmitter at Mendip. Today I do not receive any of the local mux channels, and as my aerial is in the loft I will not have much hope of doing so as Mendip is 43Km away! Thank you Sony.

I receive free-view from the Bilsdale transmitter at a distance of 21km here, a roof top Log Periodic Antenna - height of 14 metres connected to the UHF 'IN' of a Humax Fox T2 PVR with a TV connected to UHF 'OUT' of the PVR.

My problem is this:

Every time I put my PVR into standby I loose Multiplexer Com7 & Com8. I have to manually re-tune every time I turn it on. The TVs free-view receiver does not have this problem.

Can any one suggest the cause?
Regards D. A. Brown

Stephen Burnell:

You are correct that the transmitters used for the local channels are substantially lower power than the main channels. I used to live on top of a hill near Bremhill and we never got any of the 'local' channels there either.

Stephen Burnell:

Did you look at the predicted reception for your location for the local mux?

Mendip (Local Mux) L-BSL Date Now 13 Jul 19 Channel 30 Served 83 Marginal 99

Granted that is for an external aerial, maybe it's worth considering moving yours BUT I know some people similar distances away who get the Local mux, one who has a loft aerial but he does have an aerial amplifier/4-way distribution even though he hasn't bothered to get a wideband aerial yet !!!
