Graham Guthrie: A Samsung F6500 certainly has an HD tuner (in fact it has Freesat as well). You should be getting excellent reception from Belmont (or Waltham), so the only thing that I can think of is where in the EPG are you looking? HD channels should be 101, etc, not 50.

Graham Guthrie: Looks like it has Freeview HD, which is good. Have you double checked channels 101-104 for the HD channels? Make sure you're not in Freesat mode.

What happens if you go to menu > broadcasting > channel settings > manual tuning > digital channel tuning - does it give you a list of 5 or 6 frequencies and UHF channel numbers?

Michael it gives 5 different options in that menu. .i have checked them channel numbers up can't see them there. I checked signal strength that is showing 98 however signal quali is only showing 36
I also have a 36 bit error level.

Could this be the problem? Would buying a booster help?

Thanks for all the help

Graham Guthrie: My Samsung with Freeview HD has 6 multiplexes listed, so if you only have 5 then you are obviously missing one.

You will need to manually add the HD channels by selecting "new", keying in "28" and then search for the channels.

Graham Guthrie: Your location is indicated as having a clear line-of-sight from Belmont @ 16 miles / 359 degrees and so is your aerial pointing due North towards that station? or is it facing towards Waltham @ 32 miles / 230 degrees? as although you should be able to receive Freeview from both stations Belmont is shown as being superior.

Just a little point I would like you to check though, have a close look at your models ID plate and make sure that its full number is UE40F6500 SBXXU, because if its anything other than that then its an EU model therefore unable to receive UK HD transmissions.

My only reason for requesting this check being that some EU models are being circulated around in the UK, and as would be expected usually at discounted prices.

By the way the HD channel from Belmont is C28 whereas from Waltham its C58.

Graham Guthrie: I can shed no light on the mystery of the missing mux, but I can tell you that the reason for your low signal quality is because of your extremely high signal strength.

'98 however signal quali is only showing 36' - 98% is very high, and should be closer to 75%. You certainly don't need a booster!

JB38: I didn't know about the grey market sets - if it is one, this shows why you should buy the model meant for the country - it might seem expensive, but its the one that works best.

MikeB: Yes quite so! one particular offender in this respect being the on-line retailer Pixmania.

As far as Graham's signal strength is concerned you beat me to it! as I was going to request that he try a test using a set top aerial or even a short length of wire (about 6 feet) instead of the normal aerial, as Samsung's cannot tolerate a slightly over the top signal, HD always cutting out first even although SD would appear to be OK.

jb38: I'd expect ebay sellers or some small mostly internet based shop, but Pixmania...
They are owned by DSG - which is interesting! Actually, they seem to have found a buyer for it Dixons Poised To Cut Losses On Pixmania

Hopefully, Graham's TV has just had a bit of a glitch, and everything will be ok.

Hii have checked the model code and its a British TV. Bought it from richer sounds. The signal strength goes to 100 when I go to other channels. It is only low with the bit error on bbc channels. Could this be causing any problem? Samsung are sending an engineer out tomorrow.

Cheers for all your help and sorry about the delayed replys I'm on nights this week!
