For reliable and stable Freeview reception, you need an unobstructed path between the TV aerial on your roof and the digital TV transmitter. The map below shows the transmitters predicted to provide a signal at this location.

You can click on any transmitter symbol to show the coverage area as a green overlay on the map. Double click on a transmitter symbol to go to the transmitter information page.

You can also view the ten closest potential '4G-at-800' mobile phone masts within 1.5km of the selected location - these masts may be used for 4G-at-800 mobile broadband services from 2013-2015.

further to my earlier enquiry about TV reception from Emley Moor, my problems only occur on BBC 1 and 2 and on channel 5. the lost of reception usually occur between 12.30 pm and 2.00pm when loss of picture occurs on BBC, if I change to ITV the picture is perfect. I have found that the most regular loss happens on Saturday mid day around 1.00pm

Alan Langdown: You should be getting excellant reception from Crystal Palace - clear line of sight, and only 27km away, even with a loft aerial.

I'd check your cables - are all the connects ok, and if you have a splitter/booster, check that its working, or even better, see if you can bypass it, so that you have a straight run from aerial to TV. Could be you have too much signal (I know its my default suggestion, but still...)?

I live in the Walsall area and keep losing freeview signal for a few seconds at a time, every few minutes. Can you advise the reason for this? It is a new issue, our signal has always been absolutely fine until now.

Kim: Your just 9km from Sutton Coldfield transmitter, which is one of the most powerful in the country.

In theory there could be lots of reasons, but I'm betting your signal is too powerful for your Tv's tuner.

Check the signal strength on the TV - it should be around 75% - at 100% the tuner is going to break up. Try to take out any booster , etc and see here

Hi,

Just moved into a rental property with a rooftop aerial and new HD plasma but channel search misses the whole of the BBCB and SDN multiplexes. Everything else fine. I think we're pointing at Caradon Hill transmitter. There also appears to be a powered splitter in the roof-space feeding 6(!) sockets.

Can anyone explain the right process for dealing with this? What to check first?

Thanks in advance,
James

James Sapwell: Although your TV has failed to pick up either of the two channels mentioned during the auto-tune its not necessarily the case that no signals at all are being received from same, but just that they are being received under the threshold level required by your TV to store them, therefore in order to get an idea of the situation you are in you should carry out the following procedure.

If your new plasma TV offers a manual tuning facility then select this mode from the set up menu and enter Caradon Hill's SDN mux on Ch21 but do NOT scan it, as on most TV's (and boxes) the level that the signal is being received at will be shown in the strength / quality bars, make a note of the level seen and then change the channel number entered to Ch24 Caradons ArqA mux (same TX power level as SDN) and as before noting the level indicated from it then comparing the two readings.

As far as HD is concerned, use exactly the same procedure to test the reception from its mux operating on Ch22, but though should you get zero indication of a signal then you should go into your TV's instruction manual / specifications an make sure that the tuner fitted into your TV is listed as DVB-T2 as well as DVB-T, T2 being the requirement for HD reception.

Further advice dependant on feedback.

I live about 12 km from the Crystal Palace transmitter. I have direct line of site to it, I can see it from my roof.
I have been receiving all the HD channels using a BlackGold tuner card in my Windows 7 Media Center PC for years. Now, suddenly I no longer receive the HD channels. I have done a complete rescan and managed to pick up 93 channels, but none of the HD channels.
Have they stopped broadcasting for some reason?
