Droitwich (Worcestershire, England) analogue radio transmitter

UK Free TV shows the coverage area for a radio transmitter as a coloured overlay (orange for FM, other colours for DAB) on the grey map. We have computed the coverage by combining the terrain with the official radiation pattern. A single click will select the transmitter to view the coverage for a single site, and a double click goes to a page showing full details. Click on the buttons in the right-hand corner of the map to choose from different frequencies (or multiplexes for DAB).

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Droitwich (Worcestershire, England) mast?

No problems on any service. BBC

Since beginning this year I cannot receive radio BBC4 on 198 kHz here in Holland, I dearly miss it. What has happened?

The Droitwich long wave transmitter is nearing the end of its useful life, it gets more difficult to obtain the vavles used as they are no longer manufactured.

However, you may like to try BBC R4 LW - BBC Radio 4 LW 198 AM Droitwich - Listen Online which carries BBC Radio 4 via the internet. I'm not sure whether there are any country/region restrictions applied as is the case with some BBC services.

My wife report that she stopped receiving Radio 4 on FM this morning (31st May 2016 about 07:30) in Birmingham, a pop music station - it was replaced by a pop music station. She could continue listening to R4 on digital.
As far as I know the signal comes from the Droitwich transmitter - can anyone shed light on this?

Radio 4 FN has now been restored. It was of course the Sutton Coldfield transmitter! Thanks for all replies.

Francis McGonigal: I had no Radio 4 on FM this morning. I'm suprised it was Sutton Coldfield affecting me as I'm near Rugby. Very glad to know I was not alone however.

Nat: Whenever you find that you cannot get Radio 4 on FM, you can try alternatives. At present, one alternative is Radio 4 LW at a frequency of 198 kHz. It comes from Droitwich, whereas your Radio 4 FM comes from Sutton Coldfield. Another alternative is Radio 4 online. Simply type BBC Radio 4 into your search engine, ( many people tend to use 'Google') and then click on the 'Listen live' option. Radio 4 is also on Freeview TV, channel number 704. I hope you find these alternatives useful. I didn't suggest 'DAB' because you need a DAB radio and the signal would mainly come from Sutton Coldfield, so if Sutton Coldfield transmitter is having problems you are better not using it at all until the problems are resolved. Geoff Heath: Not surprised if it's tuned to Droitwich radio mast(!) Malvern perhaps?

Geoff Heath:

Or even Sutton Coldfield emdubya77, as that area is north of Worcester itself. Freeview aren't predicting any reception from Malvern around there, so it could be weak from Malvern.
Geoff, you should be able to get good reception from Sutton Coldfield except COMs7&8 which are likely to be poor.
But if you are getting reception from Malvern, the current potential cause of the problem is likely to be the same whichever transmitter you are getting.

I made a long post here Malvern (Worcestershire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy on the Malvern page a week ago for someone with a similar problem. These effects have still been around recently, maybe not always as strong.
