Map of all DAB transmitters

You can click on a transmitter group symbol to see all the masts in that county or area, or click on a single transmitter to see the coverage area. Due to the large number of radio transmitters, many have been grouped into counties or administrative areas for ease of viewing.

That depends on the car. In my BMW i3, I get a text description which shows what's playing.

Ian: Many thanks. I have a top of the range Hyundai i20. My dealers don't know much at all about DAB and had not even heard of DAB+. According to Hyundai head office, there is no reason why I shouldn't get info on the radio, but they also say that it depends on the station whether THEY put out the info. Which I think is a load of tosh. I asked somebody at Halfords and they say it depends on the radio. So I have come to the conclusion that Hyundai don't know what they're talking about and fit cheap DAB radios in their vehicles!

When I looked at a new Hyundai about 18 Months ago, DAB wasn't available even as an option. They suggested I streamed it from my Mobile to the car!!!!

Ian: There is another small problem with using the DAB on my car in around Chippenhan, in that there seems to be dead spots in different places. I see by the DAB map that the only transmitter near Chippenham is Naish Hill which is about 6 or 7 miles away. Do you happento know what the coverage is and is DAB more susceptible to hills. I know for instance the radio doesn't do anything under bridges around here.

Richard:

If you zoom in on the map above so that it shows Naish Hill DAB transmitter, not far from the village of Sandy Lane, and then click on the "r" symbol it will show you the coverage map.

DAB is known to have various reception problems, including susceptibility to terrain and movement. A moving car does suffer from some reception problems of DAB. That's why our continental neighbours waited a while and now use DAB2 or DAB+, which suffers rather less from reception problems of the type you are experiencing.

Not familiar with your area but they do also suffer from co-channel interference. There are several areas around me where D1 and BBC drop out but D2 (with fewer transmitters) is perfect.

DAB on Key103 and Smooth in South Manchester is awful this week - travelling round the M60 clockwise from J1 to J16 I went through about 5 changes in output level and lost sync three times on Key 103.

Has the Lancashire multiplex recently had a power boost or something?
I've never been able to receive it before but have just found it this past weekend receivable partly around Wrexham, North Wales.
Any information will be much appreciated.

On the other hand, unusually my JVC Hi-Fi DAB band when scanning the stations/ensembles it currently only picks up Radio 1 and Radio 2 on the BBC National DAB ensemble where as the Stoke ensemble isn't seen at all. All other ensembles I currently receive on 10B, 10D, 11A, 11B, 11C and 11D are being received normally.
But if I tune to one of the presets on BBC National DAB or Stoke and flick through the stations on the ensemble, I receive all stations on each of those ensemble perfectly.

Any explanation for this odd phenomenon?

Stuart Owens: it would appear that the capacity of the station list is now being exceeded by the number of stations available at your location. If there is a facility for deleting unwanted stations from the list the rest of the stations carried by the BBC national mux plus those on Stoke 12D would no doubt appear in the space that had been cleared. Regarding the central Lancashire mux, it was proposed to modify the antenna and double the power at Winter Hill in order to increase DAB coverage to that of the FM service area of Rock FM, the principal commercial radio station in Lancashire.

I've just done a scan of the stations again and counted how many stations the radio can hold.
Although it has 30 DAB presets, from the first station it finds after scanning on the lowest frequency of 10B (Smooth East Midlands) to the last station it finds on the highest frequency of 12B (BBC Radio 2), I have counted 80 stations.
Prior to the Sound Digital mux starting, I received all stations. After Sound Digital started but prior to receiving the Lancashire mux, I think I did lose 1 or 2 of the Stoke stations.
On another radio, doing an Autotune channel scan, it has found a total of 94 stations which include upto 4 regional Smooth, Heart and Capital stations (1 Heart or Capital is more than enough!).

So maybe my JVC Hi-Fi can only hold 80 stations in the ensemble station scan.
Once some of those 'z' stations and Absolute 80's on Digital 1 and the local ensembles close because they are now on the Sound Digital mux, my JVC should hopefully show a few more stations as there's no way to delete stations from the channel scan, just from the presets.
