The symbol shows the location of the Bargoed (Caerphilly, Wales) transmitter which serves 6,600 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Bargoed (Caerphilly, Wales) mast?

Steve Lintern:
The central heating? We've got gas central heating. Would that affect the tv? It's been fine for the past year. It's been raining for a while but would that just affect HD channels?

My next test will be to compare the TV's HD channel picture to the recorder's. I'll watch BBCHD through the TV and record the same channel through the recorder's tuner. If no disturbance on the live feed and some drop outs on the recorded picture then I'll isolate the problem to the recorder.

Seems a coincidence that Bargoed had engineering work just when the problem started. Is my problem indicative of this new 4G issue?

Thanks

Steve

Steve Lintern: Of course gas central heating (or combined heat and power as I have) would be effected - the thermostat can't be gas.

I can't see 4G@800 having anything to so with this. Your transmitter is on frequencies lower than 600MHz.

Problem solved. Thanks for replying. When I retuned the Panasonic bwt 720 gave me three options: Wales, GBR, and Best Signal. Picked best signal this time and now everything's perfect again (picked Wales before). Sorry to bother you. Posting now in case other set top boxes and TVs have similar options.

To be able to help we need tosee what the reception conditions are like at your location. To do that, we need yopu to enter your full post code, or that of a very nearby public building or shop, so that we can examine the recommended transmitter, the local topography between you and that transmitter, etc.

Julie: Film4 (15) is broadcast from the same transmitter as used by ITV (Wales) / Channel 5 etc and as such your Mum should be able to view it, if for any reason she is unable to, then try carrying out a retune on her set.

As far as extra channels are concerned, a test code of the area fed into the reception predictor did not indicate reception as being possible from anywhere except the local Gilfach Freeview Light station. However that said, a Google earth rooftop check around the higher areas of Gilfach (Dan Y Bryn) could suggest that reception "might" be possible from the Wenvoe main station located at 12 miles away, as a couple of aerials were seen pointing in that direction. But though it all depends on where your Mum is located relative to the area mentioned, a post code (or one from nearby e.g: shop /post office) required for checking.

By the way. Although your posting was made under the Bargoed stations heading, my reply was purely with reference to you having said that your Mum resides in Gilfach.
