Robert Hamilton: The terrain plotter shows that the ground rises up within one mile, in the direction of Sudbury. This might cause you difficulty in reception of it, and particularly its COM channels.
Sudbury broadcasts PSBs and COMs. Rouncefall was a new transmitter introduced at switchover. It carries PSBs only, and they are a Single Frequency Network (SFN) with Sudbury's PSBs, meaning that they use the same channels (same frequencies) and therefore they complement each other. Consequently if you were to direct your aerial to Sudbury you might find that you get excellent PSB reception. Unfortunately Rouncefall won't help you with the COMs, should Sudbury's not be good enough.
If your current aerial is a wideband one it is therefore suitable for Sudbury/Rouncefall. You could spin it round to 11 degrees, to face Sudbury. If you find that you can't pick up Sudbury's COMs, you could restore the aerial back on Crystal Palace and get a second aerial for Rouncefall. Then feed the two into a C38 diplexer to allow you to view Crystal Palace's COMs and Rouncefall's PSBs (and Crystal Palace's PSBs should you so wish).

Hello, you very kindly replied & explained the reasons to me a few weeks ago when I enquired as to why the Watford Hertfordshire area didn't yet have BBC3HD, BBC4HD, BBC NEWS HD & AL JAZAEERA HD as do currently in Southend.
But strangely on my return home to Watford over Christmas I discovered we now have channel 105 BBC3 HD added which is great but also confuses me somewhat as the other BBC HD are missing So what I'm asking is how can we get BBC3 HD without getting the others?
Many Thanks again

Paul Alley: Because it's broadcast on the same multiplex, from all transmitters, as the 4 other HD channels you currently have.

Paul Alley: With analogue there was one signal for each service. So previously transmitters broadcast four analogue signals, or five for those which carried Channel 5.
With digital broadcasts a single signal carries multiple services, it being known as a "multiplex" or "mux".
The mux that carries BBC One HD, BBC Two HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD had spare capacity. It was offered to Channel 5 which declined so it fell to the BBC. For that reason BBC Three HD (and CBBC HD which timeshares) is available everywhere that the other BBC channels are available.
BBC Four HD/CBeebies HD, BBC News HD and Al Jazeera HD are carried on a multiplex of their own, COM7, which is to be carried by only 30 transmitters.
