Is it possible to for an old rooftop aerial (possibly 25 years old, standard-type) to pick up the HD channels and all mux's except channel 26 PSB2 with SD ITV, Channel 4 etc? As that's what has happened to me, bizarre.

Dolby72: Yes. An aerial works by frequency and digital channels are in the same range as the former analogue from Crystal Palace which means a replacement shouldn't be required.

Where are you? I wonder if the signal is too strong due to your close proximity to the transmitter.

C26 used to be for BBC One analogue. How was its picture?

Dolby72: Sutton surrey, so about six miles. I have since got an indoor one and its picked up everything fine and with a good signal strength. As far as the roof aerials on my property go there are two from old - not just one split to both rooms for some reason. One feeds the front room and every channel is fine, and the other feeding the bedroom which has the drop out on channel 26's mux no matter how many times i retuned automatically, or manuallyl. I can't quite see from the front of the building but the aerial may be pointing slightly out of whack or be damaged even. Thanks for your time on this though.

Christine Clarke: The area referred to is approximately 5 miles away from the Crystal Palace transmitter and as such in theory anyway, should be in a high signal strength area.

However could you clarify exactly what's meant by a "portable Freeview TV"? does this refer to one of those small (9" or less screen size) TV's that use a pull out aerial? if you do, then are you using its "search for channels" facility or is Crystal Palace already pre-tuned.

The other point being, "if" whatever you are using is of the type mentioned and which "some of" also offers the option of using the TV with a normal aerial rather than pull out, check that you have the aerial selector switch (if it has one) set to match whatever aerial you are using.

It would though be of assistance to know the brand "and" model number of the TV in question.
