Let's look at this from another angle.
I now live in Dawlish (I'm a Devonian born and bred, but have been living in Wiltshire for about a decade, and in Wales for the better part of four years before that).
I am disappointed at the lack of Digital Free to Air channels at my address.
But here's the thing: On the analogue system, you got far fewer channels anyway. Eg. BBC1, BBC2, ITV1 (as it's now called in listings) and Channel4, and probably Five.
FreeSat is not terribly expensive (Aldi and Lidl both on occasion sell such equipment for less than £80*)
Yes, it's unfair that many people get all the channels without FreeSat or a lapsed Sky system. On the other hand, you live in a beautiful part of Devon. Stop watching the 'telly and go for a walk!
The license fee does not go towards any of the "Commercial" stations. All the analogue channels are available in digital form here.
It's a pity and perhaps unfair that the other channels aren't. But since they are commercial channels, it's up to them what they do with their cash.
I don't like it that I can't get Film4 for example, but I can't really complain since I never had it on analogue in any case.
I agree however that where the full channel range is not available, it should not be advertised as available. But then, I don't recall seeing any such ads. Perhaps that's because I don't watch much TV though!
Cheers,
GC.
*I've not checked recently, but I was able to purchase a full FreeSat system for £74.99 in late summer 2010.
