Just as an FYI for anyone, I live south of the border in Ardee. I have an LG Smart TV Freeview HD.

I am receiving Saorview and MUX BBCA, MUX A and MUX B perfectly without any problems since 10th October.

Based on this I'm pretty certain that come the 24th I'll have the full Saorview and Freeview HD service.

Eddie Bosano-Andrews:

The coverage is now outstanding in the Republic from Divis and Kilkeel, all the wayto Dublin and indeed Wicklow! See boards.ie. Its also excellent on the IOM and in SW Scotland, Argyll and parts of NW North Wales.

If you have a Freeview HD TV you are in business on the 24th as the Divis HDTV frequency is also 100kW.

Just to clarify things re. RTE, a standrd definition Freview set top box/TV will tune in all Saorview channels (apart from RTE Two HD) and the NI mux. However, you will get sound only and no picture. Thi is obviously not a problem with regard to the radio stations.

HD channels (Whether RTE or BBC) simply don't appear on a standard definition Freeview STB or TV when you do a rescan.

Peter Henderson: that's not correct. UK freeview SD equipment cannot receive the minimux for lack of dvb-t2 and can't get the roi direct for lack of MPEG 4 decoding.

Brian: I assume SD equioment will receive the NI mux in the same way as it receives Saorview i.e. sound but no picture.

SD equipment will definitely tune in Saorview this way. I know this from experience. I assume the NI mux will be no different ?

SD equipment will not recognise HD transmissions at all e.g. RTE Two HD and the Freeview HD multiplex, so nothing will be placed on the E.P.G. in this case

Peter Henderson: No, a DVB-T tuner won't pick up the DVB-T2 NI mux (just like a 2k tuner won't pick up the new 8k signal).

I have seen a Freeview manual box with DVB-T/MPEG2 for picture and MPEG4 for audio so you may well be correct.

Peter Henderson:

To receive

a) Saorview

b) NIMM

c) Freeview HD

d) Freeview SD

simultaneously if you have access to all of these formats, the ONLY choice is Freeview HD equipment. As recommended by DUK.

Well, we'll see next wednesday re. the NI mux

However, I'm 100% certain an SD receiver will receive a signal from Saorview but with sound only.

An SD receiver will not decode an HD signal, in much the same way as a 2K receiver wont decode an 8K signal.
