Freeview promised so many diverse channels in our area, in reality what did we get? not a great deal, where are the film channels, where is dave, gold, etc.

There were 4 analogue channels so we could have had 4 mux but no we got three and a pile of radio channels why?

Sky is fine, but then you need a box in every room, not a real solution...

not happy!

Ian: The government decided to release one-quarter of the frequency spectrum used for analogue. Ofcom decided they didn't have the power to force the three commercial operators to transmit from any new sites. I disagree, but there you are.

Ofcom are currently running a consultation on extending the duration of the Mux C and D licences, see Ofcom | Television Multiplex Licence Renewals . You have until the 18th of August to respond. Unfortunately they've already issued a new licence for Mux A.

Digital UK's predictor reckons you have a reasonable chance of getting the commercial multiplexes by pointing an aerial over the Pennines to Emley Moor, starting some time next year. Again, not too sure about that!

You may be able to get all the Freeview channels even though you're behind some hills where you are. Take a drive towards Whaley, on the right as you go past the Hanging Gate are a house & a bungalow, each with a big X beam high gain aerial & amp on the roof. Youll need something similar to be in with a chance. I live in Whaley & get all the channels. My outdoor, amplified Blake SR18CD is actually pointing towards Chinley Churn!. This is approx 90 degrees clockwise from the actual line between Winter Hill & my house. I got the aerial, amp & fittings from here A.T.V (Aerials And Television) TV Aerial, DAB Aerial, FM Aerial.
This site
Map of area between SK054807 and
Hill
shows what is on a line between Winter Hill & the centre of Chapel (SK054807 is on Station Rd N). Hit back below the map to show the terrain blocking the line of sight. Theres a link there to take you to the main page to re-enter map co-ordinates for a more accurate fix.
