Which companies have run the Channel 3 services in the Mendip transmitter area
Yate should be easily served by the Mendip Transmitter (though some locations near Westerleigh could be slightly tricky). Unless you are in some sort of dip or have a lot of trees near you on the line of sight between you and the transmitter, then you should have no trouble if your installation is not faulty.
The HD channels for BBC1,2,3, ITV & Ch.4 are carried on the BBC B (PSB3) multiplex which on Mendip broadcasts on UHF Ch.58 near the top end of the C/D aerial band.
HD channels for BBC4, BBC News, Ch.4+1, 4seven & etc are carried on the COM7 multiplex broadcast on UHF Ch.33 which is in the A aerial band. (see near the top of this page for a full listing of channels).
Ch.58 is the highest frequency from Mendip, and if you have any occasional intermittent problems with any of the regular ITV & Ch.4 channels carried on the D3&4 (PSB2) multiplex broadcast on UHF Ch.54 then there is a good possibility that your installation has deteriorated. Higher frequencies will usually suffer significant degradation with a failing installation, whether it be corroded connections especially at the aerial, elements missing from the aerial, or coax deteriorated from water ingress.
So if your installation is a number of years old, it could well be time to have it replaced, certainly checked by a competent person. If you are having it replaced then you should use a Group W or Log Periodic aerial, although the old group C/D aerials made in the latter days of analogue transmissions will just about give a reasonable signal on Ch.33. the current channels in the C/D band will be moved in future years down to Band A, so a wideband aerial is the correct one for a replacement.

As you can see, I live in Trowbridge but we do not suffer from any loss of signals at any time during the day or evening. Not knowing your exact location in the town, a post code would have helped, it is impossible to know what structures or businesses are nearby. Another factor that is common in this type of problem is electrical interference, possibly caused by some equip[ment that turns on at about that time. So would you check the cabling to the TV and any timer controlled equipment anywhere in the house. It is also possible that some external souyrce is the cause.

Well I also had low quality on the other muxes and bit errors. Whether it was total coincidence that when I went to "manipulate the coax" outside the signal varied (and disappeared) and then I was about to disconnect a connector inside to contemplate testing continuity to the aerial, the signal re-appeared and everything seemed to go back to normal. Checked the connection and all seems well now, so only time will tell if I get a re-occurence or a transmitter fault report eventually appears.

Hi, are there any issues at the mo with the Mendip transmitter? Using two tvs in the house both using different sources. One aerial in loft and one communal. Communal system has issues with freeview hd, roof aerial with standard freeview channels so I assume our equipment is working ok.Postcode is BA4 5UA. I see that the Bruton relay is having issues but assumed we were working off the Wells transmitter itself.Any clues or advice would be gratefully received.ThanksJoe

Hi there, there've been no reported problems for the Mendip transmitter. My issue seems to have been a faulty connection!
If your aerials are horizontal and pointing NW then you are definitely using the Mendip Transmitter. There would be no reason to use a Relay Transmitter as you have an extremely clear line of sight to Mendip and should have a virtually perfect signal being only 7 km away.
If you are having problems with the communal aerial, I would report it to presumably your building custodian/landlord.
