Bill: Sorry to jump in here, but one cause of Freeview pictures not looking as good as from an external box is the use of the "sharpening" setting on the TV. If you can find such a thing in the TV's picture settings, you will need to turn it off to get the best possible Freeview pictures.

Briantist,
I remember when I first got the TV I was not impressed with the picture. Then found people on the net saying turn of ALL the picture enhancing settings, which improved things.
I need to check the settings to see if they are off as I have altered them recently.
Thanks.

Well now we have no signal on our small digital tv at all. Tried an booster aeriel and nothing. Main tv is perfect. Bedroom tv only works on satelite. Freeview direct is zero. I thought when switch over took place all would be great. It's rubish! I have tried channel scans over and over again all to no avail. What are we supposed to do.

NEWHAVEN transmitter - Analogue BBC ONE Off Air; DSO related from 07:54 yesterday to 08:14 yesterday [BBC] Over the next week Newhaven relay: TV (analogue) Service Shutdowns, TV (digital) working normally, Radio (analogue) working normally, Radio (digital) working normally. [DUK]

Andrew Dandridge: If your small TV runs off a set-top aerial, and the main aerial (that serves the main TV) faces the same transmitter, then take the TV to it to tune it.
If you are tuning to the Newhaven transmitter, then it is currently broadcasting only one multiplex and thus there is only one UHF channel to scan for. It is C50, so if you the device has manual tuning, use it.
You should also be aware that the Newhaven transmitter will carry Public Service channels only; it will not carry Commercial channels such as Film4 and Dave.
If you received Freeview before switchover, then you must have been picking it up from another transmitter. All transmitters that carry low-power Freeview before switchover are full-service transmitters after switchover. In such circumstances, you may be able to receive the full service from another transmitter such as Whitehawk or Rowridge.

Briantist,
Re picture quality on my Toshiba TV on Freeview.
You were correct, I found two noise reduction settings, DNR and MPEG NR were both set to ON. Now they are off, both Freview and Freesat pictures look similar in quality.

Re Newhaven only having Public Service channels.
Can't see why that couldn't include ITV3 and ITV4 before including +1 channels. Also aren't 5* and 5USA also free to air?
Will there be any room for adding extra channels in the future?

Have bought 2 new Freeview TV's for kids bedrooms, both different makes. Also have a older Freeview tv & our main tv of 6 years, but has Freeview tuner. All work off same aerial. One of the kids TV's can pick up 32 channels, 2 other TV's can get 11 channels & main tv only gets 7 channels. Tried several re-tunes with no change. Why is there a difference in number of channels rec'd? Will this be corrected on 13th?
