Does anybody know whether the MUXes that carry both SD and HD channels can be recorded simultaneously on one tuner or is it one or the other?

I have five tuners on a PC that record Freeview but I have noticed that I have run out of tuners when recording two programmes at the same time on COM7 & COM8.

Thanks

Stephen: A tuner is tuned to the frequency of the multiplex it is receiving.

To record off n multiplexes simultaneously requires n tuners.

To record off com7, com8 and BBC B, the tuners need to be DVB-T2 capable.

It would appear that only two of the five tuners are DVB-T2.

Sorry my post was badly worded, my system only has DVB-T2 tuners.

So as an example. I'm recording 6 programmes at the same time, four on separate muxes and the last two are on COM7, one is SD and the other is HD. Should this work?

My system allows the six records as but when the programmes actually start only the one that starts first on COM7 actually does.

I'm trying to find out if I have a hardware problem or if it won't work in the first place.

Stephen: It should work. SD or HD makes no difference.

Which channels, are you certain they are both on com7?

It seems to be 4Seven HD that I have had problems with.

It's possible that it's the scheduler as I was setting up yesterday and it seemed to be treating Radio 1 as being on a different Mux from BBC1 and BBC2, I have not had a problem with radio and TV before although most of the radio I record is not on at prime time so there are usually plenty of tuners available.

Stephen: You don't say what software you use but if you are able to look at the channel properties, the TSID (or maybe TID) will be the same for all channels on the same multiplex.

Something odd has been happening with COM 7. After the last re-tune I lost it completely but now it is fully back and all channels are watchable again. Not sure when exactly it got better.

Yeah I can't get COM 7 at all on either 746MHz (digitaltv info) or 554Mhz as per this site. Oh well at least it's not a main one.
