My reception has been awful recently especially when recording - similar to when there is a high pressure system in the summer - but there hasn't been one.

Didn't you see the Transmitter Engineering posts immediately prior to yours?
Also, there has been "tropospheric propagation" in recent times which is often associated with high pressure systems, but not always.
