Are there any plans to convert the Poole transmitter into omnidirectional instead of the current directional? My location is BH12 2LQ and although I can clearly see the transmitter approx 1 mile away my location is at the back of the transmission footprint.At present I have a huge DAT 75 antenna on my roof pointing at the Rowridge transmitter and although it is a high gain and boosted signal I am forever getting bad pixelation all the time due to the fact we are in a dip for the beam of Rowridge.I ask this question because I have Freeview built into the TV's I have and I begrudge having to pay again for alternative platforms in order to get the transmissions.This is why we pay our TV licence.....right?

Tony: The Poole transmitter will transmit Freeview Light from Wednesday, 21st March 2012 and will serve the same service area as the current analogue transmissions from the transmitter.
You pay your TV Licence because the law says you have to.

Hi - I recently upgraded our aerial system so it is outside on the roof with a powered booster adjacent and powered splitter indoors. All was good for a while - however:
Approximately 2 months ago we started getting what appears to signal interference/strength loss. It is like someone running an electric motor that interferences. It lasts for between 1 and 5 seconds and then goes back to normal strength before doing it again. This repeats every 20 secs to few minutes. It is worse in the warm weather. On more recent TVs they just display signal lost but on older TVs you can see the picture strength change.
I have proved it is not our aerial or TVs as I have used a completely different TV on a free standing aerial that has the same problem in synchronization with the installed system.
On analogue this effects BBC1 but not BBC2, ITV or CH4. On digital it only affects some chanels ITV3 being one but not BBC1, BBC2. I't probably affects others but I'm not sure which as I don't watch them all. I am aware that digital is transmitted in groups so it is probably the whole of one group and it it probably in a transmission band similar to analogue BBC1.
I am guessing this problem is due to outside (of my house) interference possibly by someone else s equipment which may be faulty, illegal, or just set up incorrectly.
I doubt it is affecting just me and probably the neighbors too although a lot are very old and have very old equipment which is less suseptable. Post code is BH16 5EY.
Can you suggest some kind of action for me to resolve this situation as I am at a loss as to what to do as I believe it is outside my control??

Derek: Interference of the nature you mention can obviously be caused by a multitude of devices where an electrical circuit makes and breaks, but going by the timings you report it would strongly suggest gardening equipment as being the prime suspect, particularly hedge trimmers, as what you have said almost exactly fits the pattern to that of when I am using my own hedge cutter.
Interference from this type of device can radiate directly from the actual motor, but the length of mains cable that is used on portable devices such as this can act like a transmission aerial for interference, as although suppressors are always incorporated within the device, in reality their effectiveness is very limited.
I would suggest that the next time this starts to stand outside and listen carefully for the classic whine of some device being used in the locality.
Of course if this happens in the pitch black of the night, then it obviously isn't connected to anything involved with gardening, then other possibilities have to be thought about like power tools.
There is another device that can cause exactly the same type of interference, that being a sewing machine, but its doubtful that this would be used over such a long period of time.
I have to say that curing this type of problem is not an easy task, and indeed in most cases impossible, especially for a person residing in an area of bad reception, as although unaware of your analogue strength the trade predictions for the digital signal possibilities cannot by any means be classed as good, Rowridge MuxA (Ch30) being the only channel not showing as variable, and Poole not coming into the equation until March 2012 onwards.
