or could it be the below as it mentions CH21, if so why would it effect the pana and not the sony?
4G at 800MHz (at800) Freeview reception issues
Tests now show that SOME households AND are in poor signal areas AND that are very close to a 4G phone mast MAY have their Freeview service disturbed: C22: ArqA, C21: BBCB

brian: When I looked at your first post earlier today, my first thought is that your signal strength is too high, and although your Sony seems fine, signal strength is still probably the most likely problem.
When the strength gets too much for the tuner, the first channels to go are the HD ones. Strangely, different brands react in different ways. Panasonic is known to be very sensitive, whereas Sony (although actually quite sensitive) is less likely to break up. My Sony PVR has a current signal strength of about 85% - and it got to 93% before it began to break up.

Thanks Mike, bit of a noob when it comes to tv stuff, as i said signal strength is at max the same as the signal quality, however it is the signal quality that shuts down from max to zero and not the signal strength, not sure if that would be caused by the signal strength being to strong....the article you refer me to says to get the highest quality on the signal you can.
So it could be 1) signal strength, 2) 4g problem or 3) faulty tv, which did work fine for 4 days.....thanks for the assistance mike and jamie

brian: If the quality is up and down like a yoyo, but strength is 100%, its too strong a signal. Its certainly not 4G, and the TV is probably fine - as Mazbar said, if you have a problem with a TV, it tends to be a big one.
Follow the advice in the article and thats one less problem, and enjoy the telly, including the online stuff and your snazzy voice remote!

update:- been into loft and rotated aeril to weaken signal now about 75% quality 100%, unfortunately signal quality still drops to zero giving no signal on screen.
Guess that means I am down to 4g probs or duff tv.????

brian: On your 08.58pm posting you said that your old Sony HD set was steady as a rock whereas the Panasonic's quality was diving up and down, this making me rather curious as to the model of Sony involved?
The other point being, that considering Rowridge is undergoing engineering work this week and which can result in either breaks in transmission or a range of other problems associated with transmission, then its not really possible for anyone to properly assess the situation whilst receiving under these conditions.
As far as 4G is concerned, considering the fact that the highest channel in use by Rowridge is C28 then should 4g be in your area(?) its extremely unlikely to have any effect on your reception unless its mast is located within 60 yards (max) from you..

Hi John..... the Sony is a KDL-40HX803 and the Panasonic is a TX-P50X60B
I spoke to the digital people who told me that Rowridge was under going work this week, but that they generally finish at 6pm, The fault continues up to at least 11pm at night. at the moment i cannot make the problem appear in the morning. which could be linked to the work or the TV takes that long to show up.....

Contact a local installer who should provide a free test and advise on the best way to move forward to rectify your issue.
Diagnosis shouldn't take very long.
With regards to your TV I have always found that SONY is rock solid with reception even when I have assessed installs of very poor reception.

Cheers Jamie, trouble is how long it takes to happen, this morning switched on at 06:45 , no problem until 12:47 then it started, so 6 hours with no problem at all, hopefully JL will have more stock as they have agreed to swap it.......

Even if you tv is not always showing the problem a system test can still find a fault.
See how the new tv works then look to call someone to test the system.
