Rye
I have recently moved house in Rye. In my new house the TV (Yagi) aerial seems to be aligned to the Rye transmitter. I get good reception on those channels (eg BBC1, BBC2, BBC 3, BBC 4) broadcast on Channel 54 and those on Channel 46 (eg ITV 1, ITV 2, Channel 4), but can't get ITV 3. As far as I can see, the reason is the Rye transmitter does not broadcast this - are there plans to transmit ITV 3 in the future?

D Green: Unfortunately not; the Commercial (COM) multiplexes do not have as wide a coverage as the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) ones. The main reason being that the small transmitters like Rye don't carry them because the operators don't regard it as worthwhile to pay for them.
The UK now has a two-tier terrestrial transmitter network. 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population) carry all six multiplexes (three PSBs plus three COMs) and these serve around 90% of the population. (A multiplex is a single signal that carries multiple "services".)
The other 1,000 or so small "filler-in" relays like Rye carry only PSBs and serve about 8.5% of the population.
The reason for this is because the Commercial broadcasters operate for profit only and have no "Public Service" obligation. They were invited to increase their coverage and declined. For them to transmit from the 1,000 relays would roughly double their cost of transmission. As they are interested in getting as many viewers as possible at lowest possible cost (to show advertising to), then it's not surprising that they've stuck with the biggest transmitters.
Reception from Dover may be possible. I had a look down your road on Streetview and all the aerials I could see were on Dover. So you may be lucky and be able to receive the full complement of channels from Dover.

Hi, I bought a new tv in november 2014, after tuning I received 6 HD channels via the freeviewHD, which is integral to my samsung smart tv. Over the past 7-10 days the HD channels are either pixelated or sound only, my signal comes from the Rye transmitter, i have spoken to freeview and there are no planned or emergency engineering works in my area, the signal strength on the HD channels is 100% with no errors, I have retuned using the freeview reset procedure, to no effect. I have two ariels, each with there own socket, one downstairs and one upstairs, the problems exist with both ariels. The upstairs ariel was fitted by an engineer from freeview and the downstairs one was installed when the house was built in 2000. Up until the past 7 to 10 days both ariels supplied excellent HD channel reception. Have you any suggestions of what may be the problem?

Fiona: Confirm whether or not 4G in the 800MHz band is operating in your area and perhaps coincides with the start of your issue.
The mobile operators have set-up a company called "at800" to address the issue of interference with TV reception and its contact details are here: Contact us | Advice or general enquiries | at800
I suggest you give them a ring and see what they say. If it could be 4G interference then they will send out one free filter per address.
