Maggie: With regards to the Freeview agent's advice, was he / she aware that your were using an indoor "same room" aerial? because with Winter Hill being located at 26 miles away its a bit of a tall order to expect satisfactory (or any) reception using an aerial located in the same room as the TV.
The Welsh programmes referred to are being received from the Moel-Y-Parc transmitter, but to test whether or not anything is being received from Winter Hill try the manual tune signal test procedure as follows.
Remove the aerial and then carry out a normal auto-tune as this will blank out the tuners memory, once completed reconnect the aerial then in the set up menu select "manual tune" and enter Winter Hills BBC mux on Ch50 but do NOT press search or scan, as on most equipment if anything is being received its signal strength and quality will be indicated on the bar, if though you see indications of around 50% or so for both strength and quality then press search or scan and storing the results.
Should that be a success then the next mux channel to enter is the ITV1 on Ch59, likewise storing the results and giving an update on same, as further advice is dependant on feedback received.

Maggie: Hi jb38. Thanks for your speedy response. I carried out the above and the signal quality is 30% and the signal strength 88%. What would you advise? Thanks again

Maggie: I suspected that this might be the case, the problem with your same room aerial being that the signal from Winter Hill is being received from the right hand side of your location, i.e: from where Arnside Road joins the main B5143 meaning that the properties directly on your the right are blocking the signal.
This being the case, then about only one thing that you could try is to once again carry out the manual tune signal test exactly as before entering BBC mux on Ch50 then whilst observing the strength / quality and move the aerial around to try and get a position where the quality exceeds the strength, because as it presently stands its the reverse of what is required.
If you do manage to obtain a good position then scan the channel storing the results, once completed then use exactly the same procedure except this time enter Ch59 (ITV1) scanning same and likewise storing the results.
These are really the main channels that will provide you with the regional news services you require, the other muxes not being and are : Ch58 (ITV3) - Ch49 (Pick TV etc) - Ch55 (4 Music etc) and picked up by using the same manual tuning procedure as before, unless that is your TV offers an update channel list facility, but caution! on some sets this facility acts like an auto-tune whereby possibly replacing the BBC and ITV mux you have already stored with the Welsh channels from Moel-Y-Parc transmitter.
If though those measures are not successful then unfortunately you do not really have any option but to have an outside (or loft) aerial installed.

TONY: Our Youview box is in for repair and we have no HD.
Granada ITV SD went off air for the last quarter of XFactor. Fortunately in West Wirral can get ITV Wales, so we saw the final sing off and Gary chickening out.
As I write, Granada SD is back on air.
What happened, Granada?

Will Bay TV on this be broadcast directionally towards Liverpool? I am to the west of Storeton and wouldn't mind picking this up when it starts?

Michael Plevin:
To give you some idea of the coverage of Bay tv from the Storeton transmitter, click on the 'LL' box shown on the map above. You will see that it is quite a limited area directed towards L'pool itself.
Try a manual retune on channel 30 and if you can receive 'BonanzaBonanza' on EPG 64, then you should be able to receive Bay tv when it starts.
You could also look at the page for Winter Hill and click the 'LLH' box on the map; that will show the approx. coverage for Bay tv from that mast.
Again, do a manual retune of channel 56 to see if you can receive anything there. You never know!
