kevin gardiner: Perhaps this is what the current engineering works are for, it's a coincidence if not.

Yes, I think it was. Although engineering work has been under way recently, from what ive noticed at my end, the ERP of the PSB2 multiplex ITV1 etc, has been the only multiplex operating on reduced power. As of an hour ago, all multiplexes are operating at full power now. The HD multiplexes are operating ok also. We'll have to wait see what transpires, now that COM 8 multiplex is transmitting a carrier.

As of today, the com8 multiplex is up and running. It came on on Tuesday 16th April, but it was on transmitting a carrier.Today, they are transmitting two HD channels so far. One is channel 111 QCV +1 and QVC BEAUTY HD on channel 112. The multiplex is being transmitted at just under half the ERP of the main multiplexes 89kw for the time being along with COM 7.

The new COM 8 multiplex is up and running on the 31 main transmitter sites across the UK. A More accurate information sheet has been released about it. It states, that the COM 7 and COM 8 multiplexes from Sutton Coldfield has the following ERP. The COM 7 multiplex ERP is 89.220 kw, and the COM8 multiplex has an ERP of 85.990 kw.

Both the COM 7 and COM 8 multiplexes are at a temporary ERP and frequency channel slot till the big switchover in 2018, when each transmitter site will be allocated 6 multiplexes each between 470mhz and 600mhz. All multiplexes will be in HD. However, this is all open to change, if they can agree on a new codec for the proposed 4K specification. The current one which folk are raving about is the N-NOVA PERSUES compression codec. If this happens, we will get a lot more standard HD channels and perhaps 4K being transmitted terrestrially. From what I've read, in tests, they have stated that they can create a good, stable 4K stream with a bit rate of 7-8mb, which is enough to transmit 4 4K channels terrestrially per multiplex, and up to 9 standard HD channels. The only downside is if the current standard HD and 4K televisions will be able read the new codec information, or whether television owners will have to purchase or use yet another set top box? WE shall see.

To whom it may concern

I noticed that that the channel 125 Pop is not on freeview in Coventry and was wondering when we would get it. I am on Talktalk and I use a Youview box but still not getting it. I contacted my network provider Talktalk and also Freeview service but they said that since Sutton Coldfield is my transmitter and I live in Coventry I won't be getting Pop 125.
Please is there going to a time when all this will change?

BOLANLE ILORI : Basically no, as POP (125) along with City TV (8) is transmitted on Sutton Coldfields LB (Local) multiplex transmitter which is aimed at providing the service to viewers in and around the Birmingham area, likewise with the signal being beamed in that direction, Coventry being well outwith the coverage area of this transmitter.

I am unaware, as yet, of any plans to provide the Coventry area with a similar local service.
