mark hawes: if you know how far you are from the transmitter, and the channel numbers, you can use Field Strength Calculator to get an estimate of the likely signal levels.
Looking at the manual for that device (http://download.horizonhge.com/pdfs/HD-TM_USB_Plus.pdf) I can't see that it's necessary to select the mode used.
You should try to get the maximum MER (Modulation Error Ratio) without going over 65 dBuV level. This is an indicator of the signal-to-noise ratio. (RG47SH)

When Tacolneston switches over to full power I notice that it will be broadcasting at 14 times existing strength. For those already receiving a signal strength graded as 'strong' by their Freeview boxes, is the additional strength of transmission signal likely to have an adverse effect on the circuitry of these freeview boxes making it necessary to purchase new and I suppose less sensitive equipment?
Whilst writing, many thanks for providing the freeview/stst channel update - much appreciated. Without your help trying to keep up with the updates is a nightmare.

Peter Newlands: For most people it should not be a problem.
Some people who are using boosters, amplifiers or even masthead amplifiers will have to disconnect these from their systems.
If you currently have a very high signal strength and don't have a booster/amplifier then you may have to fit an attenuator after switchover is complete.
These cost around a fiver.

please could you tell me if my horizon hd-tm plus meter will automatically update the different muxes on tacolneston at switchover or does it have to be done by plugging it into my computer? is there a certain website i have to go on? If anyone can help me i would be very grateful.Mark

mark hawes: Like any other DVB-T device, you just rescan. No software upgrades will make it work with the DVB-T2 Freeview HD transmissions.
