The symbol shows the location of the Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) transmitter which serves 330,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Tacolneston (Norfolk, England) mast?

Richard Baguley:

There are two posibilities here. The first is the well known phenomenon of Temperature inversions that give rise to interference from distant transmitters. That is currently being reported as widely affecting many areas in eastern England, so that may be relevant. In which case you should not try to retune your equipment.

The second possibility is that you may be being affected by 4G signals as there is a Vodaphone mast very close to the postcode you have given. It is on Chapel Road on the other side of Yarmoputh Road, around 200-300 metres from you. If that is used for 4G, then the services transmitted on the BBCA and the D3&4 muultiplexes could potentially be affected, they being on channels 55 and 59 so are close in frequency to the lower end of the 4G band. You may get a free filter from @800 by contacting them on https://at800.tv/contact-us/.

Hope that helps?

MikeP:

Nope, it isn't that.

Tonight BBCB is also either down or drops out thus is unwatchable.

If it was another transmitter it would happen all the time - it doesn't.

Remember, the s/s on BBCB is 20%, if that, of all other channels.

It is the Tacolneston transmitter that has a fault but you guys won't admit it. Why?

Hi,could it be possible that either the freeview unit is faulty or you have chronic overload, try, disconnecting
the aerial connection and seeing what the effect is.I'm line of sight with oxford and have overload on
indoor aerial,hope that helps.

To richard, have through check of aerial installation, how old is the coaxial cable to the aerials?,it might be
worth replacing all coaxial and plugs,i've known corrison to play havoc with installation, but use only
brand new stuff, for other reasons, old cable is also a fire hazard.Corrison can cause phantom signals, and
lots of weird effects.Buy indoor aerial and see what it receives.Try also inclining the aerials,in the vhf days,
in swindon, large parts of the town were affected by polarisiton slant and various channels disappeared
at certain times,hope this helps.

For peter, turn aerial mast around and see if you can receive more inland transmitters, rescan and see,buy
indoor aerial and see what it receives, you might need to relocate to take advantage of local screening, try
inverting the aerial. Is there a church or high building thats reflecting the signal

Richard Baguley:

If your signal strength is just 20% then your aerial system is faulty. You need at least 50% strength but not more than 80%. If it was the transmitter at fault there would be thousands of viewers complaining. As there are not, it must be down to your system.

Check all your aerial connections. If necessary, replace the flyleads from the wall socket (if you have one) to the set.

MikeP etc:

The aerial system is new and worked perfectly until a couple of weeks ago when pix started to break up on BBC1&2 HD - only.

S/s on all other channels is unchanged at c.7 of 10.

Extremely unlikely it's the aerial but I'll get my man out to look.

Aljazeera Channel 108HD has been out of sound/vision syc for the past 24 hours. Is it your Tacolneston mast or a Station problem? Needs sorting.

Kilroe: As no faults nor engineering work has been listed against Tacolneston, the problem "might" be down to a glitch having occurred in your TV / boxes tuner. If same has a manual tuning facility? try carrying out a manual scan on Mux C31 (554.0 Mhz) and see if this rectifies the situation.

Although a better method is to carry out an auto-tune "after" having first of all removed the aerial connection, this action blanking out everything stored in the tuner, reconnecting the aerial on completion followed by another auto-tune to load the programme channels back into the tuner.

Why so many posts re the same off air report?

Is there a reason why Tacolneston has so many BBC HD off air situations? Is there a more serious problem that we're not being told about?

Oh and isn't the word "digital" redundant?
