Hi,
Can you explain why my reception has started to bereak up on FREEVIEW.The system has been ok until recently. Last evening I lost all Freeview channels. I tried retuning and got only 32 channels and not the 100+. Totally confused as sometimes I get10 channels and not the rest. Also Sky News via Freeview is almost always affected now.
If you have any advice, I would begrateful to hear from you.
Regards
Andy

Elliott: The COM channels from Stockland Hill are co-channel (same frequencies) with the PSB channels of Caradon Hill. I think that it is for this reason that Stockland's COMs are at 10kW whereas its PSBs are 20kW.

If you require a high-gain aerial for Stockland Hill, then this should be a Group A one and not a wideband one. Wideband high-gain yagi aerials have much less gain on Group A channels, of which Stockland uses exclusively.

I see that you are on a slope and that the terrain appears to preventing reception from Beacon Hill which is only 5.5 miles away. That is a pity because the Teignmouth relay only carries PSB channels.

For a list of which services are PSB (Public Service Broadcaster) and which are COM (Commercial), see this page (those with a bullet in the "E" for England column apply):

Andy: If channels are breaking up then retuning is only ever likely to remove them from the tuner's memory. This assumes that they were tuned to the correct transmitter in the first place.

This is because the tuner remembers the frequencies used by each channel and as they haven't changed, any retune is simply attempting to tune in to the same frequencies. Unless the receiver has "forgotten" the channels (highly unlikely), one is a glutton for punishment or it is found that the receiver is tuned to the wrong channels, retuning should not be attempted.

I gather that, like Elliott, you are receiving from Stockland Hill rather than the Teignmouth transmitter, which is the page you've posted on. The Teignmouth transmitter only carries PSB channels (see the link I provided to Elliott to find out which these are), so reception of COMs (which include Sky News) would be expected to be intermittant or non-existant due to the signal being received off-beam of the aerial.

Response from Andy
Sorry have been away.
I have it from good authority that the reason I have had picture break up is because engineers are updating HD channels on all relay stations and have to reduce output to to this. I am further informed that on Tuesday 18th September 2012, there will appear a message informing that we all need to update.
Well here's the quirky bit; I unplugged the ariel and also disconected the mains. Counted 30 seconds and plugged in again. Hey presto all is fine. No break up happening now. So if this helps anyone else - try it!
Thanks for responses. Andy

Why does the Regional News London come on and not West Country Tonight at 6pm when I tune into ITV 1 HD. My ariel is pointed to Beacon Hill. I can get West Country Tonight if I use Channel 3 for ITV 1 but not on channel 813 which is ITV 1 HD.
