Dick Rudd:The extra BBC1 channels will be from Belmont and Sandy Heath. In fact if the channels were stored on autoscan Sandy Heath could now occupy the normal channel positions with Belmont and Waltham in the 800s. See what local news is shown on each to work out which is which if you don't have frequency info to hand. There should currently be 105 standard definition channels found over the six muxes from one transmitter.

Hello John. Something weird and wonderful has happened. I tested the signal again and all the PID information for C31 is there, I have now managed to retune all my equipment including the pc tuner. Nothing has changed in the setup from earlier, the signal levels and quality remain as they were but the 'network information' is now completed - how odd.
Is it really sad to be overjoyed at getting mux 2?

Jonamat: Thanks for the info. I have been fortunate to receive C29, C31 and C33 all at 55% signal and 100% quality, but I was rather surprised to see the quality on C31 drop to very poor when repositioning the aerial a few inches in either direction. C33 was not affected in this way. I expected C29 to behave like that as it is co-channel with analogue C4 from Little Eaton where I live and either signal can be received perfectly by choosing suitable aerial positions. The nearest analogue transmitters using C31 are Crosspool (Sheffield) and Fenton but it is unlikely that either would be causing problems in Leicestershire even if they could be a factor in more northerly parts of the Waltham service area.

obsidian: I am pleased for you...but no change here. I have no Channel 31 and have noticed now that I have no Channel 29 either. Could it be that I have no "wide band" aeriel???
Tomorrow, I plan to eliminate the white box (the purpose of which I have no idea) and test the two devices I have directly to the aeriel.
This is turning me to DRINK as well!

@ KMJ: yes, quality is as Jonamat says: 0-10%, and mostly 0%.
Yet C29 (which supposedly has the same signal strength according to the Freeview reception tables) and is also out of group (according to the transmission frequencies at the top) has a quality of 100%.
And C48 (the equivalent frequency for Belmont) fluctuates between 0-100%, mostly somewhere in the middle, which makes it useless for viewing purposes, but it does get here sort of.
So this is a widespread problem with C31 specifically and has nothing to do with local analogue interference (we don't have any) or the lack of wideband aerials (otherwise we wouldn't get C29 either).

I have now tested the TV direct to the aerial and exactly the same problem occurs.
Back to the Aerial itself...i must have had a wideband aerial before 30/3/11 and 13/4/11 retunes because I was getting all the channels. Is that right?
So if it is not the aerial then what on earth is it?!?

Having swapped my Finlux TV which works fine in kitchen to the aerial point with the goodmans on, the channels break up on MUX2. I conclude that the signal to this room is weaker due to wiring issues. Its further from the aerial and there are additional sockets on route contributing additional signal loss

Whilst its nice to be enjoying mux 2 again I dont know what happened or why, or even why others still have difficulty when my problems seems to have cleared up. The signal does appear weaker than the other mux's though, only about 50% strength, the signal on c30 comes in as yorkshire so I assume its belmont and that is 52% strength now! Perhaps there is an invertion affect as I cant understand why that would be stronger than waltham.
