When will residents of Whalley ever be able to receive all freeview and hd channels received by the majority of the rest of the country? It is so unfair, only 20 channels available so we are forced to pay the extortionate prices of sky tv!

Caroline: Probably never. You receive all of the HD channels currently available on Freeview, and also all of the channels the licence fee pays for. The commercial broadcasters provide the extra channels for 90% of the country because it is financially viable for them to do so.
You don't have to subscribe to Sky unless you want Dave, Yesterday and extra HD channels - just get Freesat.

Caroline: You are not "forced" to pay for any TV service; the only pre-requisite is a TV Licence.
The politicians decided that the Commercial broadcasters (which don't transmit from Whalley transmitter) could pick and choose - i.e. they have free reign on their transmission network. Things today must be run for a return which is why your transmitter only carries those it has to; it is there to provide a Public Service.

The only thing you can do is assess whether you might be able to receive from Winter Hill.
