I carry out a weekly retune in the hope of getting more channels from the Wharfedale transmitter. Is there a future date for receiving more chanels in this area, I am currently disappointed with the number of available digital channels.

patrick: Without going into a lengthy explanation the answer is no! The reason being that the provision of any further multiplexes would be for purely commercial interests, and with these interests not being willing to pay for the running costs involved, basically because of the limited number of households that these transmitters would serve would not be capable of providing sufficient returns for the money spent.

The only possibility to get these channels is if you are in a location where you can get a signal from another transmitter that broadcasts them. This needn't be one which offers the same regional programming as Wharfedale as you could probably have two aerials: the one on the other transmitter serves the extra commercial channels and Wharfedale gives you the correct regional programming. Due to the topography of the area, this may well not be a possibility. I'm just suggesting it as a thought to you as it may be.

Parick: Depending on exactly where you are it MIGHT be possible for you to receive more channels from a different transmitter. I have done some experiments at my house and I can receive Emley Moor, despite being down by the river at the bottom of The Chevin. I will need a high gain Group B outside aerial to achieve this with a reasonable margin. It is likely that reception will be variable.
The only way to be sure is to try at your location.

ChrisW,Otley. If you look up the ATV Aerials and Television of Sheffield website and a very good website by a very good reputable aerial retailer themselves, either a group B Yagi 18B or group B X-Beam XB16B,using satellite grade copper-copper black or brown co-ax cable and fitted with a brass co-ax plug, will possibly give you a very good likelyhood of receiving Emley Moor transmissions, bearing in mind the polarisation is horizontal on this mast.

Mark, I agree: I have spent quite a while reading ATV Aerials website-very informative and a good read. I have come to the same conclusion, probably the Yagi 18B due to it's smaller size and much lower wind loading.
All I have to do now is find someone to put it up, because I'm certainly not going to do it myself. (my experiments were in the loft).

Having Freeview reception problems due to loss of signal. Live East end of Otley with aerial on roof of Terrace house. TV picture pixelates and disappears showing a NO SIGNAL prompt. This is only infrequently but I need to know if it is the transmitter or part of my equipment. It happened at around 10am 5th Dec for more than 15mins if that is of any help. Thanks

Des O'Hara: The first thing to check is that your TV/box is tuned to the signal from the transmitter to which your aerial points and not another one.

If you are on Wharfedale, then BBC is Ch25 and ITV1/C4/C5 is on Ch22. HD services are on Ch28. Is this what you have?
