The problems referred to are what happens when signals from different sources but are on the same or adjacent are combined together. A combiner is capable to doing that well enough if the channels are well enough separated. If there are two transmitters using the same channel (co-channel) they can cancel each other out, meaning from either source. If they are using channels next to each other, such as 21 and 22, then there can be cross between them with can give either no signal, intermittently no signal, no signal on one source (or the other, but unpredictable), etc.
The fact that this happens can give rise to confusion and result in constant re-tuning when that is usually not necessary and can lead to no signals and severe frustration.
Such is the way with physics.

I have no BBC at all tonight in Stalybridge. It hss been difficult / intermittent for some months and needing frequent retuning, but now the tuners on two different tvs don't see those at all. What can I do about this. Cheers, Paul

Paul Cooper: Apostcode would be helpful, so we could see what sort of you should get. Looking at someone elses postocde from that area, you should be ok for - check your comon cables, etc, since its likely you've got a fault with your or connections.

Paul Cooper: thankyou, the postcode is SK15 1LZ. I do have an amplifying multiway adaptor with the main tv being direct off the , but none of the tvs will tune BBC . All other channels are good.

I live at WA73HD, see map. The map does not show any colour for my area ? I can with the aid of aone for all 4 ch get most good strength about 50% , but they can be intermitent, ( time of year, trees etc). I have a 10 element and an 18 element uhf aerials outside on my bungalow. I would like guarantee reception in order to get talk talks current offer.My plan is new aerial, better quality aerial to feed the three tvs from a new low noise , (probably located in the attic about 2 meters from aerial,Any comments please

Forget all about a '' , there is no such thing. Any UHF aerial will receive either or digital signals just as well and avoids 'inflated prices'. A Log-periodic would be better than a 'wide band' but do you really need one? Check the used for current transmissions, I think you are probably using ? Currently a Group C/D is needed, but from 2019 it may need a Group K, so a Log-Periodic will be better as it will cover all channels now and in the future.

If you need an aerial , but that is by no means certain and worth trying first without, it should be fitted as close as possible to the connection point on the aerial, normally being mounted on the support pole within a few inches of the connection to the dipole. Always use the best UHF aerial you can afford and be careful to make good permanent connections with quality connectors. soldering where possible if not of the screw terminal type.

I am using and with the all the sets can receive all stations.
When I try to use an indoor aerial I can't receive the BBC A mux. If I stand on my head and hold it at just the right angle I can get a very broken up . All the other Mux's are fine in the indoor aerial.
